Hey,

Just a little bit ago my crank pully, spun off the wheel and cut my timing belt which got stuck and well im trying to figure out if i bent a value i was going about 6 mph when it happend and i took the old belt off and tryed to spin the cam gears, should they spin easy? one spun to it got to a point the front gear was very hard to spin but it spun? what should happen? thanks.....:thumbdown

You hear of RARE occurances when someone loses a belt at idle & doesn't bend a valve - but the scenario you describe above is BENT VALVE CITY.

i took the old belt off and tryed to spin the cam gears, should they spin easy? one spun to it got to a point the front gear was very hard to spin but it spun?

& don't do that anymore. Jerk the Head & get to work.

yeah dude... if that belt snapped during engine on...@ 4g63 dohc engine it's sudden death ..... i had good luck with my old car with 4g63 sohc engine... camshaft wheelspinner in the end snapped and engine downstairs worked but upstairs didn't... valves stayed just good position so pistons didn't hit them...

So do you think there is any hope what so ever???? i had a 94 talon when the timingbelt snaped and i got lucky going 35mph no values were bent? is there a way to find out??

well find out...
take cylinder head off and check the damages...
i'm quite sure that pistons have crushed some valves there... if so.. not good

ya thats what i heard i tryed to take the value cover off but i couldnt get the &()^()&^E)#@ off and i cut my hand trying to pry it off, but your saying that if i get that off and i cannot see any damnage then good news but if i do then another parted dsm on dsmtrader.com? Would you hear any noise when the values bent? because i didnt hear anything at all.. this blows....

well if lot's of dmg some noise yeah...

but easiest way to make sure just check the valves and if they are 100% fine then no problem... and pistons are ok on the top... and cylinders look okay....

i'm quite sure something is broken there, but let's hope the best...

if dmg is big.. cheapest and easiest way is to buy new engine...

well i already know it was the lower part of the timing belt that went because of the crank shaft pully this i found out REAL fast but i dunno should i keep ti all apart put a new timing belt on and try to start it? would that tell me fi the value is ok? Im just praying to god its ok bc i'd be &*&#*(@&# w/ college bills and all.....

Take your valvecover off. If you have trouble getting it off, make sure you got all the bolts then whack it with a wooden/rubber mallet.

After that look at the valvetrain. If any of the rockers have popped off you've bent your valves more than likely.

Well, I thought I'd get an opinion here since I wasn't making out so well on the other thread, and because this related to my problem. So here's the question:
When it comes down to cost, and say you've already had a head job done before, would it just be cheaper to purchase a lower mileage complete head that is in perfect working conition, and then change it with the current bad one? Of course along with this there would be the normal TB/belts changed along with a balance shaft removal(Just for you Mr. Rogers).

No - It could just be a few (4 for instance) bent valves - & the fact that the unbent valves have recently been resurfaced should make repairing the original one cheaper - Of course if you found a "deal" on a "perfect" Head - BUY IT ANYWAY, a spare Head is a good thing.
