blue smoke behind me when i accelerate... only at a little higher rpms, but not too high so something is wrong, its oil burning obviously, so i'm assuming my turbo is going right?

Can you smell anything in the car? It could be your pistion rings going, that or it could be the turbo but when mine went it smoked a little at low rpm sometimes but it was nothing you could really see from inside

there is clear clouds of blue smoke puffs out when i shift ech time at the higher rpm... i can see it in my rearview... my buddies are all saying that its my turbo going and it just gonna hurt the car the more i drive it, and could cause internal engine damage...

Probably the turbo seals, I drove mine for a long time like that then I cleaned the coked oil out of it and replaced the seals. There are a lot of dsms running around with seals leaking like that.

i'm not sure what to do.. there is all the smoke, then the oil problem from the link above.. and when i was driving today, i had that oil light flickering, the blue smoke cloud behind me, and then my check engine lite came on big and bright.... so i shut it down when i saw that. started it up, and it was gone, drove for another 2 mins, turned a 90 degree turn, when i shifted it down to first at the stop and started driving agian the check engine light came back on... my friend just said "haha your turbo is pretty much blown and it's burning oil bad..." so now i'm in a great modd as you all can imagine if you were in my place... :thumbdown  :( OMG :|

i guess the car is gonna sit now.... i'm assuming its the turbo becuase at idle there is no smoke... only when the turbo spools up... and obviosuly all this came at a great time.. when i am cramped for money, and i put 3 bux of 87 in my car this morn to get to school... so my mission is to find a used stock turbo for now.. for the 150 bux range.. u got one let me know... thanks a lot everyone...

anyone wanna buy it? its only got 103k miles:p .. just kidding, the voices in the back of my head are saying sell it... but i like the car.. so wish me luck...

Also a bad turbo will start to smoke after idling about 10 minutes, also the check engine light does not tell you if the turbo is bad, run the codes.

yea.. i thought i would just throw that in with my problem list so people could see what else was goin on with my car... i figured as much the check engine light doesnt tell if your turbo is gone,, but it lit up for a reason sooooo.................... i dont know..

Yeah that sounds like your turbo well you should be able to pick up a 14b for cheap check dsmtrader.com to see what they have on there i even have a 14b lying around my house

If it puffs out smoke when you shift, that is usually the piston rings With that little miles, I woudnt think either would be worn out. Has the car sat for any length of time? The piston rings might be stuck or gummed up. Try a combustion chamber cleaning and see if that helps. Try cheap things first right?

im in Vermont and this winter has been especially cold.. the car sat in temperatures at about -25 to -30 for a month.... so it wasnt happy when i started it.. but with 100k miles i dont think it would make that big of a deal with the piston rings....... i dont think its really when i shift... more just when the turbo is spooling and i realize it when i shift andf look in the rearview....

i'm talking to my friend online who said he has a ported 14b with no shaft play and all the seals are good on it, 90k miles on it but 150 shipped... good deal?? should i have the mechanic check it out anyways or is everyone pretty sure its my turbo?

if it is in fact my turbo that is going... will a ported 14b turbo work fine with my stock setup? i'm assuming yes because its only a 14b and its only ported to 7mm (15psi)... i just would hate to have things get messed up after the installation due to more than what it could handle...

Ok i got the same problem and i bought a rebulit turbo a year ago , i was kinda worried , so i went and talked to one of the mechanics that worked on the turbo and he told me its just the bypassing oil at ur seals which he sayed was normal and it only does it when i boost it up but then when it idles everything is fine. So im not sure i had to take the car back about 5 times because of leaks and mess ups they did.
