We just swapped in a 1g 6bolt into a 97 GST, cranked up first try, no problems everything was quiet and smooth. We took it for a spin, and it drove fine but didn't fell as if it was boosting at high as it should be. So we came back and hooked up a boost gauge to test it. Its highest level was 8psi, so we tested it again, pulled up to 6k, it felt like it misfired or something, so we slowed down, only to hear real bad valve chatter. We push the car back into the garage and crank it real quick to check oil pressure, and the gauge wasn't showing any, so we unplugged the pressure unit, and cranked it only to shoot oil out once we cranked it, so it wasn't bad oil pressure. Then we look at the cam sprokets, and line them up to TDC, at TDC the cranks TDC is about 10 on the timing mark, and the crank timing is now sitting at 9. So we think it jumped timing, but we manually turned the crank and didn't hear anything bad, but it makes the noise bad when we crank it. A buddy of mine said something happed on his like that, and he just replaced his belt and lined it all up, and then it was fine, and no chatter.
How bad does this sound? Does it sound like I bent a valve? When I manually turning the crank, it's still feels the same like we have all the compression. What does it sound like to ya'll? I'm still kinda new to the 4G63T's, but I keep learning more everyday thanks to the forums.
Thanks for the help.
