something in the tranny broke

I was driving home from school. I started in first at a U turn shifted to 2nd and had it at that little point where it is 1/2 way in neutral, 1/2 way in second. I let the clutch out and heard it grind, as soon as i heard it i pushed the clutch in and pulled the shifter all the way in to second. When i let out the clutch it grinded again. So I tried to put it in first and it wouldn't move. I was right in front of my house so i coasted home. But now i have to force the shifter to even get it to move and it wont really go anywhere. From my knowledge it sounds like a shiftfork, but what do you guys think.

Will it go in any gears at all? In my old 90gst I broke the shift fork and I couldent move it into any gears, even if I forced it, it still wouldent move.

it will go into 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse. just not 1st or 2nd.

Do you think the 1/2 shift fork might be bent or broke, Also.. Did you check in the engine bay that there is nothing in the way that is blocking you from shifting? That happen to me also.

yea, there is nothing in the way under the hood, and at one point i had the center console off for about a week so i took that off and checked but there was nothing blocking anything.

Yes, it is more than likely going to be your shift fork. You got lucky that you vroke one of the least expensive items in the drivetrain.


STOP trying to force it. Figure it out and get it fixed.
