I talked to a guy at a parts store today, he had a '94 TSI and he told me about putting a "bleeder valve" from a fish tank in place of the BCS.He had quite the accent and I was in a hurry so I didn't quite catch all that he said about it. I don't know of anything on a fish tank called a bleeder valve. However I did have a manual air valve that fits the hoses quite well, so I tried it and no bells and whistles. Is that guy full of S@$# or did I do something wrong or what the heck is a fish tank bleeder valve. I did leave the BCS plugged in and just tucked it out of the way. The guy said he got upwards of 20 PSI from this trick. any ideas.

what he was talking about is a ghetto boost controller. Don't mess with boost unless you have a boost gauge and a boost controller. If you ran 20psi on a stock fuel system you will blow the engine in no time. 15 is max you can run on a stock fuel system.

P.S put your bcs back on.

thats the damn truth.. look at my sig pic.. blew #4 piston ..long story but dont exceed 15-16lbs on the stock fuel system. Just buy a boost controller for 50 bucks from boostcontroller.com, or you can make your own. I'd just get a hallman and call it a day.pz

so 15 psi. is all i can run with stock fuel system. i have a boost gauge and boost controller, i was hoping to run 17 at least. oh well i geuss i'll wait till i can upgrade my guel system.

I understand now not to do it but I still want to know exactly what a "ghetto boost controller" is.

ghetto boost controller means you go to a pet store and buy a plastic fish tank valve, or go to home depot and buy a 3/8" brass valve and install it in place of the BCS to allow an adjustable full time bleed of the boost to the wastgate.

Basically a very cheap and effective way to adjust boost, but it's known for slow wastegate response that will cause a spike in boost when the boost first builds up. The factory BCS works the same way, but it is either on or off...not adjustable.

The ball/spring boost controllers work a bit better (less/no spike) and the turbo will spool up quicker.

The only thing I would do in the meantime is the free BCS mod. Unhook the hoses from the BCS and youll see a plug in one of them. Take a small screw, screw it in slightly, then yank it out. When I did it, boost raised from 11psi to 13-14psi. Dont do the bleeder, its pure ghetto. You'd might as well spend $50 and get a Hallman for that matter.

Thank for the info guys I'll keep my BCS and maybe upgrade later, but for now I'll just Ghetto Boost the fish tank.
