If you haven't tried changing your knock sensor (1G), be prepared to throw things. It's very difficult to get to. My arms are pretty raw right now. There's a ton of little tiny hose clamps that have a way of cutting into your wrists and forearms.

I took out the battery to get to it easier, but didn't take off the intake manifold bracket. Though that may have made it more difficult, that bracket wasn't very easy to get off itself. The sensor has a 15/16 nut, but it's almost impossible to get at with an open end wrench, as it was too long, and too many things were in the way to get it to turn. If you have a stubby set of wrenches, you'll be fine. I ended up using a shorter crescent wrench (wish I would have tried it much earlier).

I would have taken pictures, but you can't really see anything. It's all hidden underneath the intake manifold and you have to do most of it by feel. I actually shoved a little 4x3 inch mirror in there to help see if I was getting the wrench on right. It was pretty useful.

Once I was all finished, I took the car for a drive. It seemed to have cured my constant knock problem, but we'll see. I'll log it today and over the weekend with more driving to see. I hope this takes care of it.
:(

Dude, you suck, mine was so easy to get out!

Of course, the engine was sitting on my garage floor dismantled ;)

Anyway, I hope you don't have any more of your knock issues. I'm curious to see what the beast will run :thumb:

i believe it would be much easier to get out from under the car. i have to change mine tomorrow. does anyone know if the knock sensor is bad it would cause the car not to start? mine has no signal going to it and the car wont start.. plus all the rubber stuff on the back of the sensor is melted off and run down the side of my block

Did u guys know that when your Oil level is low,it would cause your knock sensor to go bad(melt or give false info to the ecu)why?im not sure, maybe because the frequency from the motor revving is dampended some what from the engine oil(its just a guess)

but weve had cars with check engine lights and "bad" knock sensors, the first thing i do is to check the oil level---> its 90% of the time too low.then, all i have to do is delete the code, fill up some oil,and check again--->problem solved.
