something broke on my motor mount. Need to know what this is

Ok i wish i had pics but i dont have a digital camera. Well anyways yesterday i looked at my engine bay and i noticed something was broke on my motor mount on the right side. Its the peice on top of the motor mount on the right. Its like a weight or something. Its black, and shaped like a cylinder that is about 1/2 inch tall. Its pretty heavy for how small it is. The cylinder part just broke right off and was laying there. I want to know if this is important peice and where i can order a new one.

first of all do not drive your car. and take a hydrolic jack and a piece of wood and put it under the oil pan you do not want your motor to sag down.it could mee up your tranny.what part is broken? of the motor mount. if it is the mount itself you can get them at autozone.if it is the bracket you can probaly get one at a junk yard

ok its the part in the picture. Its not changing anything on how the motor sits. Its just like a weight on top of the mount. Im not sure what purpose it serves. Does anyone else know?

yeah its only a 2g thing. I want to order a new part but i dont know what it is. Does anyone have any clue at all?

My car, 91 GVR4, had one but it fell off. I would not worry about that little piece of metal. I don't see what it could do/ damage.

ok i will take your word. I would like to know what the part is though so i can order a new one. Im just like that i guess. I like my car to stay in perfect condition. Does anyone know how i could go about finding out what part it is?

I am sorry to say I do not have one either. Never knew it was there until you pointed it out.

Your pic is terrible. I took another one to really tell what you are talking about. Is it "A" or "B"?

If it is "B" I am gonna take a stab at it and say it has to do with where you mount a hoist to remove the engine.

thanks a lot for your help. Im also curious as to what purpose it serves and if it will hurt anything if i drive without it

A damper's sole purpose is to "dampen" vibration. So, it is designed to keep the engine from vibrating so much. That extra little weight may not seem like much, but when you are at higher rpm's it'll make a difference. You don't need it, but I guess I would replace it just to keep the engine from vibrating so much. Who knows what might work itself loose with a little extra vibration.

The engine won't explode or anything without it. I guess it's your call.

Mine doesnt have one but I have 3 inch exhuast, solid motormounts and no balance shafts...

So it vibrates a whole lot.

for 15 bucks i think i will order a new peice. I dont like vibration at high speeds.
