Would this part affect starting and running?

My car all of a sudden wont start very easy and runs rough tell it is warm I found this wire broke and wonder if this would affect it and what part is it ?

Its a coolant temp sensor, and it will affect how your car runs.

I thought so but it is weird the gauge still works does one wire go to the ecu and the other one to the gauge?

The dash gauge has a seprate sensor its the one to the right of your coolant temp sensor it has one wire coming from it. The one in your pic is the coolant temp sensor, its the one that goes to the ecu.

They use different sensors, the one with the broken wire tells the ECU the temp.

Ok it started right up but it is already warm so the big test let it cool over night and see what happens Thanks a lot guys and let u know what happens.
