Ok so my 94 Eclipse gst has been acting up lately and im having trouble figuring out what it is..

-The main problem Im stuck on is when I come to stop or gliding in neutral the car has a tendency to randomly die out on me. Another thing I noticed is when it happens, I can pop back into gear and ease off the clutch a little and it will fire back up. As far while the car is parked and running, it sometimes will only last a minute or two before dying. Also while parking if I rev it hard and completely let off, its almost a guarantee that it will die..

Now its to the point where if I crank up the car and let it sit there running, the rpm's will randomly dip every few seconds and build right back up, and repeat..

-The other problem Im having is theres a loud clicking noise coming from the engine bay and tends to get louder as a accelerate, but isnt as notieable while maintaing speed. I'm thinking my lifters are sticking but am not completely sure..

I attached a video (URL below) that captures the sound fairly well.

Thanks for reading! I probably left out a few details, but if you have any ideas of what it could be let me know! Thanks again -Andrew

i don't want to be negative, but it sounds like a spun rod. very similar sound , it happen to me twice. " if it is that" it will get worst. i hope it isn't, but since it happens when you rev but not in cruise , i came to that conclusion, best of luck . ! :thumb:

It sounds pretty unhealthy.

I would drop the pan and check to see if there are any metal shavings.

I just changed the oil today and didn't notice any metal shavings in the old oil. Forgot to mention that yesterday after a short 5 min drive, I popped the hood just to check on that clicking noise again, and i saw some smoke (about a lit cig amount) leaking where the wastegate is connected, it hasnt done that again yet after driving it around today.. any ideas?

Im not to sure about this particular problem, but maybe you have a SERIOUS vaccum leak. Check all your lines and since that one on the wastegate was smoking look at it too. Good Luck man

This might sound stupid but check the pickup ring or whatever some people call it behind the cam sensor. On my iPad it sounded loudest when you were in that area. Also a quick way to check if it is a rod bearing is to pull your plug wires one at a time and see if the tick or knock goes away or calms down. If so you've found your suspect bearing. And it might not be anything but a perceived issue to me but you're probably going to want to get that plug wire off of the timing belt.

I agree, somewhere I hear a bad vaccum leak, Time to bust out the water and soap and figure out where thats coming from..

And as far as that noise, that sounds a little too loud to be lifter tick?

It sounds like a lifter tick mine had it after I change the oil
Let it idle for 10 min and see if it goes away
But I got a question on my 91 awd it jump time and I replace it with a 120 gmb timing kit but it sounds the same and now there's a loud popping noise on the passenger side
Everything is in timed
