just got finished installing new flywheel, have went through 4 starters so far and still just grinding and chunking while trying to start car, so i bought a new flywheel because the teeth on the old one were pretty wore down, once new flywheel was installed, the car would start but was still chunking pretty hard. after the first few starts now its like the bendix isnt coming out on the starter at all.. any idea or help with this issue.. i have went through 4 starts thinking maybe they were just bad from the parts store.. ive shimmed it, ive bought new starter plates, nothing is seeming to help.. i know the flywheel is the correct one.. and the starter as far as i know is the correct one.. car is a 95 talon tsi awd turbo. ne advice or help would be very appreciated.. need my car back on the road asap

Another guy on the forums just made a post on a very similar issue, this is what i suggested to him

Check this thread out, I was really curious about this being the issue so i did a little search after initially posting this response. Apparently this guy solved an issue that sounds similar to yours, he stopped posting after finding out that he didn't have a starter plate and resulted to trying washers on the starter bolts for a solution.

If that post doesn't do it for you then you can read this post. One of the member confirms that they had the same issue until they pulled the trans and put the starter plate back on it.

thank you for the info.. i have a starter plate.. a brand new one at that.. it didnt make a difference.. and u can see the marks on the flywheel where the bendix is hitting up against it,

the marks are actually on the flywheel past the ring gear. if that helps any at all.

Could you try using 1 washer on each bolt for the starter to see if it backs it off enough.
