1G: Ignition Circuit Malfunction

Ok, I'm at my wits end with this. When i go into boost i sputter, bog, rich out, and sometimes die. This doesn't occur all the time, randomly.

mods: 91-94 ecu w/link
91-94 Power transistor with 90 coil pack.

i've gone through 3 90 coil packs and i'm tired of looking for one on the forums.
i can get 91-94 coil packs easily as they are readily available at the junk yards.

I want to run a 91-94 coil pack in my 90, but be able to retain my tach.
Remember i already have a 91-94 ecu and power transistor.

are you getting code 0044 for your ignition circuit malfunction? you may be losing spark to cylinders 2&3 or 1&4

Yes I'm getting code 0044 ignition circuit malfunction. Ive replaced my power transistor 4 different times and i know they are I'm good working condition. I took one out from a friends car that had no issues. But i was still sputtering. I mounted the ptu on firewall, because i thought the heat from the intake is killing it. But no such luck.

Since its hard to come by 90 coil packs. I took out the coils from the 91_94 coil packs i had and just wired it up to my 90 coil pack bracket and wiring harness. My tach works, but I'm still sputtering randomly. But I'm not getting any codes on link any more.

I have done a ton of boost leaks and have none, compression is good, and i checked my timing, it checked out as well. I also ripped open my wiring harness to make sure nothing was cut, burnt or anything in that nature. Tapped it back heavily, wire loomee it and wrapped it in some foamy thing to dissipate any heat from frying my wires.

The only thing i haven't done is check the ecu if its leaking. But I'm pretty sure its not cause i just sent it over to link when i got it earlier this year. But I'll check in the morning.

hey sorry for the late reply I had the same code issue in my 90, I sent the ecu back to dsm link and turns out it was a bad connection in the chip, they fixed it and sent it back free of charge. If you have not fixed your issue yet I would look into that, I forget which pin I checked with a mutimeter on the harness connection but it showed no signal to cylinders 2 & 3 and I was losing spark.

so i swapped in a 91 ecu and the car runs fine looks like it was my ecu after all, now i have to find someone to repair my old one for me so that i can reuse it since it has all my ecmlink data and tuning specs. i will see how long this 91 works in my car cause iam sure i read somewhere that i need to swap some pins but hopefully it will hold out till i get my original one repaired.
oh and the fault in the ecu was the #55 (power transistor 2&3) pin was not sending a signal to the power transistor module
