i came on here to ask the exact same question. 'cept I have a 95 talon.
Walking through a store, found valve for 2.50, looked under hood, was stumped.
Ill look again, hopefully in near the same place.

wow, im dumb... I was looking under/near the battery for something completely different...

Where would my PVC Valve be on my 97 gst? Same place? ive been noticing smoking whenever i get on the gas really hard, and a friend told me to check and change the pvc valve. Is it hard to get to anc change? All help is appreciated!

Thanks!

David

Yes, same exact place. No it is not hard to change... unscrew old one and screw in new one. Simple as that.

Also be aware that the threaded hole is not bored in alignment with the top of the cover- it's at a slight downward angle.

Use a dab of Permatex #2 on the threads.

Dohh you took my advice LOL, liquid pipe sealer works great on threads such as those, and a little trick to help prevent over-tightening is to use a stubby wrench if you have one, the DSM valve covers are fragile as can be.

WARNING!!!

Don't get the $2 ones from the local auto parts store. And if it rattles, that doesn't mean it's still good.

The OEM valve seals shut under boost and opens when the intake is at vaccuum. The $2 ones don't seal under boost even brand spanking new out of the box. And if it rattles, that says nothing about whether it seals under boost.

Correct solution: do a boost leak test with the PCV valve unscrewed from the VC and see if air leaks out of the bronze tube sticking out of the valve. If it leaks, go to your local Mitsu dealership and pick up *two* OEM valves for $8 each. The 2nd one will save you a trip when the first one finally starts leaking (they don't last forever). Then fix all of the other boost leaks you find during the boost leak test.

I'm not sure, but it's probably worth taking cleaner to the leaky one and see if you can get it to seal, but $8 isn't much.

If you read the (very long) "Stupid PCV question" thread listed a few posts earlier, it describes ways of eliminating the PCV valve, but you should read it all, as several posts in that thread describe incorrect/bad ideas. The simplest thing to do is buy a check valve from US Plastics and install it between the PCV valve and intake manifold. The part number is in that PCV thread. Make sure you put it on the right direction. Then the PCV valve can be leaky under boost; the check valve will be a backup.
