hey, i know this is an old thread, but i was curious if anyone knows how to replace the Ebreak.... because mine feels pretty weak and it will sometimes start to roll unless the ebreak is pulled all the way to the very last click.... if its even 2 clicks from the last one it will roll.. if someone could let me know how to do that or if its a pain in the azz let me know thanks!

Most ebrakes that I have ever used dont 'work' untill atleast halfway pulled up; although the last click does seem strange, If you dont already, make sure you keep your car in gear while its off, I remember my first stickshift, I pulled up to the bank, which was on an upward slope, and didnt pull my ebrake all the way up, and it started to roll back, and I didnt realize it till i had already locked the doors and got out, I freaked out...ohh those were the days

If you really need to replace it I am betting you need new shoes for it. Mine were rusted away when I bought the car but I have an auto so I am not worried.

First, however, you should see if tightening the brake line will help at all.

Take out your cup holder from the center console and pull up the piece of carpet underneath. You'll see the two cables connected to a bracket with a nut in the back tighten it a few turns until you hand brake holds. Make sure not to tighten to much or the rear brakes can drag when driving.

i have looked under the cup holder and i see the silver box, cables msut be in there, but im thinking its the shoes also, the previous owner abused the shiz out of this gsx and it just doesnt seem like the strongest break,

@sylvester this isn't my first stick shift, but yeah i have had one of those incidences once haha i've never owned an auto and never will!

now if it is the shoes that need replacing i'm guessing their in the rear wheels but how do i go about replacing these, i don't really know much about breaks

Please spell the word "BRAKE" correctly. It helps when people are searching for a particular topic.

In case you didn't know, it's "BRAKE" not "BREAK."

Also, the e-brake shoes RARELY need to be changed. Since the e-brake shoes never see true friction at speed, there's no reason for them to be worn down. If anything, the hardware that controls them is getting corroded and sticky, or the cable is out of adjustment. Changing the e-brake is a bi*** of a job for someone who doesn't know much about brake systems, though, so consider yourself warned: you may want to pass this job off on someone who's certified in brakes.

Like everyone is saying, try to tighten the cables before you replace anything. but i had a stuck caliper on my 1g, the right rear would tick pretty loud until i stepped on the brakes. The light was also lit up, i changed the caliper and it all went away.

It got really cold and my brake light stayed on when ebrake was down. There's a rubber cap that's on the inside of the brake reservoir cap. When you take the cap off, the suction pulls that rubber cap out. Make sure fluid is at the full mark. When reinstalling the cap, make sure the rubber cap is inside the cap, not sticking out. It seats into the cap so if it's out, it'll push the fluid out. If that doesn't work, there a switch under the ebrake you can check to see if it works. Remove the screw and unplug from connector and check continuity. It works just like the door switch. That circuit is completed to ground when the ebrake is up triggering the light. Hope this helps someone.
