my 1g dsm has a all new clutch and flywheel. package. new clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder all that jazz. the car will not go into gear for anything. it starts to go into first gear then grinds and when i try and engage any other gears it starts to pull forward. i have bled the system twice exactly according to team rips instructions and have adjusted the rod that goes throught the firewall. that rod started off at the very end of the threads closet to the drivers seat. i started going in 2 turn increments and it wasent helping. now im down about 10 threads towards the firewall and now the pedal is low and not returning properly what is the problem? there are no leaks everything has been throughly checked out and i just bled it and its still like this.

well i would love to but theres no way i could get it up there. would a slave cylinder extension rod allow the clutch to engage properly? and yes i have read every post on here about them but none have clearly said that yes it will mask problem and allow the clutch to engage.

+1 on the adjustment. It should be working half way pressed in.

The rod should help but it is hiding a problem. That's only if the problem is with your clutch adjustment and not something transmission related though.

but i dont understand ### everyhting in the tranny was done right. all bolts toruqued right. it was aligned properly and a new oem throw out bearing used in it as well. ive adjusted the rod nearly halfway down the shaft then the pedal got spongy feeling and does not come back up when its at the end of the threads it feels good but still does not engage the clutch:confused::confused::confused:

yes it is a very good video thank you! okay so i have the pedal adjusted pretty much all the way to the end of the threads. and when i get under the car i can no longer push the slave in by hand. so do i need to tightend the under dash adjustment just a little like a half turn till i can barely push the slave in by hand? the gears are almost engaging but no quite yet.

thanks everyone you are being a great help! :hellyeah:

The the adjustment rod in by full turns until the slave extension rod can't be pressed in. When you achieve that, back out the adjustment rod by half turns until the slave rod can be pressed in. Tighten the nut back an and check to make sure you can press the extension rod in fully still.

perfect!;) so right now i have the adjustment rod adjusted to the point where i cannot push the slave in by hand. so now i need to go half turns back in until i can just barely push the slave cylinder in all the way correct? :sneaky:

Half turns until it can fully be depressed. Start at 7:30. Althought he said "alright, it compresses"

alrighty im going to go out and adjust it now and i will be back in a few to let you know what happend. :thumb: i should be shifitng gears pretty smaoothly after that is adjusted correct?

got it adjusted to the point where i can push the slave clylinder all the way and the gears still arent engaging. what now? :notgood:

The community needs some more detail to accurately diagnose this issue. First, which clutch did you purhcase? Which flywheel? Was the flywheel machined properly when you received it? Most shops will have to be told to step it to "Six Ten", or .610 inches. If it is not stepped properly, you will have improper engagement. If you bought it from a reputable DSM shop, they should have already done this, but you still need to ask. Also, you mention that you put a new master and slave cylinder in the system. Is the system leaking? Is there any signs of fluid on the inside of the firewall near the clutch pedal, outside of the firewall where the clutch line connects to the master cylinder, or where the line connects to the slave? Are there any kinks in the line when it was installed? And finally, did you install a stainless line to remove the restrictor unit (2G)? If you did, is there any fluid near it? What fluid did you use to fill the master cylinder? If you answer these questions, your issue will be much easier for the group to solve without guessing.

Also, you might want to re-bleed the system if you had the rod turned all the way in. Bleeding the system with a piston that won't compress isn't going to bleed it. A little trick that helps: When you bleed the system, attatch a 1/4 vacuum line to the nipple of the bleeder. Stick the line in a 20 oz. coke bottle with 2 inches of fluid in it, keeping the line at the bottom. Now, bleed the system. This way, you won't have to worry about air getting into the line as you bleed it, as it will just suck in fluid under vacuum. This will help a lot if you have air trapped in the lines.

Matt.

its a 1g. and no there is no signs of fluid leakage anywhere on the salve besides inside the bore and there is no leakge on from the clutch master cylinder inside or outside the car. no kinked hoses. pedal properly adjusted. i did pull the boot off the slave tho and i dont know if it was from when i bled it a lot but there was fluid on the inside walls of the slave cylinder above the piston. does this mean i need another new slave cylinder? also the bleeder screw i have for it does not go all the way down to the head of the screw in to the slave cylinder. there are a lot of threads still hanging out of the slave cylinder so could they be drawing air in through this way to?

thanks for help!
