Hey I am new to the forums. My name is Mandy. I really know nothing about cars but my boyfriend is crazy about them so i thought i would try and get into them. He just bought a yet another Talon TSI awd and wants me to work on it with him. :ohdamn: So any help or advice is welcome.

Back out while you still can. If I've learned anything about these cars in the last two years I've had my DSM, I can summarize it in these words...

It doesn't take much money to make them fast, but

they will break..over...and over...and over again. And then when you fix the car and go back out cruising, it will break again. In fact, my car has been down longer then it's been up. No one in the known universe knows what's wrong with my DSM it seems.

My knowledge is mediocre at best, but I've learned more just browsing these forums for hours on end then I could anywhere else. Just go through a particular section and go through the threads, even if the problem the OP is having doesn't apply to you. The more you see are far as part names, common solutions, and maintanace go, the better off you'll be. Every time I spend a few hours on here reading random threads, I learn a ton.

Don't be discouraged. DSMs are just like any other car. If they are taken care of then they will treat you well. Most people just beat the living piss out of them and don't replace stupid little things. Then wonder why their car is broken.

Ha, I hear you there. I have been with him for three years and I swear his car has something wrong with it every other day. At least this way i know were our money is going though.

Yeah he is amazing with his cars. Buys them fixes them then sends them to a new home. They just take all of his time. I have avoided having anything to do with the cars for as long as i could. Now i am trapped so i may as well embrace itLOL

It's a great way to learn about cars in general, and the quirks of this particular brand.

I say this to all the new people, but it's good advice. Repair, maintenance, support, then upgrade. You get out what you put in. You may curse the car, but in the end you enjoy it. Have fun, and be safe.

Well thank you.

I wish that my wife and more women would adopt that approach. By the way what exactly do you mean when you say work on it with him. At best, I believe he probably wants for you to pass tools, do minor servicing and just be aware of what it entails to replace and fix certain things, yet if you plan to get really greasy then all the power to you.:hellyeah:

I wish my woman would work on my car with me. Grease under her fingernails is WAYYY sexier than fingernail polish. When you've found a woman that appreciates your spool and likes your annoyingly obnoxious 3" diameter exhaust with your 6" fart can..... you've found a wife.

He bought two at the same time one is mine. I have to do everything. I dont get off easy by passing tools. This thing needs a lot of work too. :)

Ha. Trust me I have heard that a thousand times before. I live with him and see him for maybe sleeping hours so i came to the realization that if i wanted to spend time with him I would have to go to him.

Quirks with this brand: dsm's break when you are hard on them, they break when you are being easy on them, they break when they are on the jackstands, and they cost a lot of money to go fast, due to the time and energy you put into it fixing them.

I enjoy mine, but this will be the only dsm i will ever own.

When she means my dsm has been down more than up.... I bought 1720 of 2k with no engine, drivetrain or interior and some rust around the windshield.. It's running and almost done at this point. Install the driveshaft, exhaust and throttle body and we're set. Has a JE on Eagle motor ready for anything.

The 2 cars I bought, ones totaled but hasn't been disclosed to insurance yet so I can fix it. I have a few threads about this. The second has a couple of valve's rattlin around in the cylinder. They're projects but not like the galant. She's a good sport though. Hopefully she gets out in the garage a little more now.

Well, I think Any performance car requires a lot of attention, regardless of make. It just so happens these cars cost less than others.

3 inch exhaust??? Try 4 inch for me....and I don't have a fart can, I have an Aero turbine which makes it like straight pipe. My girl doesn't worry about the spool, she likes the way my car pulls like a raped ape till 9.5k rpm and makes full boost by 4k. A girl that can appreciate those things is a keeper, especially my girl that bought me an HTA turbo. :thumb:

Welcome to the forums, though I've had a little set back on my car I still look forward to the summer and enjoying my baby. Treat it good and it'll take care of you. Lol it's a dsm

well 1st off welcome... these cars are fun and easy to work on(thank god because they are broken more than not LOL...) all i can say is reay and search... i got my 1st dsm in july and i must say there is too much to know for one person so focus on your mod path and whats wrong with your car... eventualy you will know everything wrong with your car and how to fix it. but my best advice is do your research threw the forums and blogs and read what people have done and ask them questions.

good luck!
