Miami,
Florida
I'm posting this on behalf of someone who lives in West Palm Beach, Florida that I met at a DSM meet in Miami yesterday. He is not a member here but will be signing up soon.
This guy is in DESPERATE need of a competent and honest shop/mechanic with specific expertise on DSMs and hopefully located in the West Palm Beach, Florida area. A possible alternative is the Broward County or even the Miami are but thats not too practical due to where he lives. Can anyone recommend someone?
More on the dude's situation - and its not a pretty one:
The guy has a 2G GST convertible that - according to the owner - had been bone stock and had run perfectly previously until:
About 6 months ago he bought alot of aggressive bolts on - huge turbo, intake, SAFC (not connected properly), something he called "E manage"? AEM fuel rail, pressure regulator but no gauge, etc.
Perhaps not the best choices of parts for a newbie upgrade path and the car owner is not at all knowledgeable about general auto mechanics or DSMs. When I say "not at all knowledgeable" I mean truly not at all.
The guy was "taken" by an incompetent shop (I don't know the name) that basically butchered the car and botched alot in the course of the installs which they did all at once over about a week he says. The shop basically put all his stuff in, gave him the car back saying all it needed was to be tuned - HA! A bunch of us at the meet yesterday looked at the car and agreed it was a total mess.
The shop is giving him the run around and even of they cooperate, by what I saw I'd not trust them to do anything more as it will likely be made even worse.
The car owner obviously made alot of mistakes here and now he needs to try (if possible) to get the car right. Add to the mix its his DD, his budget is tight etc. Not a pretty situation, and I think its possible the engine may have now already suffered catastrophic damage. Its borderline if the thing is worth saving (exterior and interior in pretty rough shape too).
The car is running terrible. Idle at 4,000K + overheating, oil leaks, many sensors unplugged and vaccum lines totally disconnected or missing, bad misfiring, etc. etc. etc. A local tuning shop in Miami he took it too made a minor attempt to address it but gave up as there are major issues and said they can't take on that job with so many underlying issues making the car un-tuneable at present.
I felt genuinely sorry for the guy and the situation he's in - although he has some of the blame himself in maybe not doing his homework ahead of time on many fronts. Whats done is done and now the best he can do is try to fix it. I did tell him if he can find someone willing/able to take this on he needs to understand it will not be cheap or be a quick fix. So if anyone knows a competent, honest shop in the West Palm Beach area that I can point him to please chime in here or call him directly. The guy's name is Michael 786-370-1193.
