Yes and no. Yes, if you don't have DSMLink v3 and a MAF cable, no if you do have those things. The GM MAF reads airflow in GM coding language, it needs to be converted into a format the Mitsu ECU reads somehow, it is not a plug and play application.

whats cheaper, a translater or a DSMlink v3 adn the maf cable?

Well, they aren't exactly the same thing. A Maft Translator is just a box that translates from GM code to Mitsu code with basic adjustments for airflow and fuel delivery. It works somewhat similarly to an AFC in that it fudges the airflow readings for fuel control. DSMLink is a complete tuning tool that piggybacks, or perhaps controls is a better word, the stock ECU. It gives you the ability to change the amount of fuel delivered with much better control than the MAFT/AFC/anything short of a full standalone, adjust airflow readings, change timing maps, clear check engine lights, the list literally goes on and on. It is a great tuning tool. It is, however, about $400 more than the translator, but worth every penny.

EDIT: Damn Snowboarder, you're just too quick.

It really depends on your goals! I think the Gen2 is a good buy for the price with its features. I dont run it either, though

Hope this isn't off topic, but I've been thinking about going either way myself; GM/MAFT or ECMLink V3 or Neo S-AFC or combo of any sort (without breaking the bank).

If my HP goal is 300-400, which would be a better option? I don't want to overkill my budget at this point until I have other bills paid. I have a stock motor w/ T-25 and FMIC (everything listed in my profile) and don't want to push it to it's limits (93k on motor) right away because right now I don't have the money to replace internals. I just want something that can allow me to use my W255 pump, Evo 560cc injectors, FMIC and give me a good base while I learn how to tune the right way before spending a whole bunch of money on ECMLink + EPROM. I don't want to buy something stupid and regret wasting the money.

What's the best solution for my goals? Something that will put me in or close to 300hp that will last me a couple years until I have the money for upgrades.

Thanks in advance!!

Honestly i would just get ECMlink and not even worry about the S-AFC. Right now I'm learning about tuning and the different ways to tune a can and i have heard several times that once people used Link, everything else felt like crap. If you don't buy Link and you choose to go the SAFC route, you still need a logger system, so to me it makes since to buy Link early on, specially since you want to run a GM/MAFT. If your looking for a turbo to put you in your goals that's cheap, look into EVO 3 16g's. it may not give you 400+ HP but it will get you close to it and its $500-600 depending on where you buy it from.

Thanks for your imput!

I'll probably go with Link in the end because I know it's what I'm ultimately looking for, I just need to save up money again. I'm just worried about EPROM's and their availability. GM MAF is what I'm gonna go with so I can Atmoshperic dump and get rid of the stock maf. Just gotta get that money.

Speaking of turbo's, I just did pick up a Evo III 16G from SBR. I got a pretty good deal with the install kit and I also got new gaskets and tubular SS o2 housing, Joe seems to be excellent at what he does. Very knowledgable. Thank god they are only in PA, I get them Monday!! Yay!!

Good to hear you got a good deal with the kit and turbo. If you give ECMLink a call they sometimes have some ecu's for sale OR give eBay, our classified and just do a general search on Google, their is usually somebody selling a couple somewhere....oh and give your local junk yards a call. their are actually junkyard databases that you can find on Google that sends out a message out to all the junk yards on that network.

That sounds like you got a smashing deal on the MAFT and MAF. Damn!

Link will probably be the next thing I get. Well it's either that or wheels. But I would like to get the car tuned with the Evo 560s and the W255 pump with the new turbo setup. Maybe then I'll have a much more reliable car. The wheels can wait for now I guess....

I may have someone that will sell me an EPROM for a reasonable price. I mean, I can't complain all the time about the cost of things. Better to spend more money on the right stuff the first time rather than waste money on the wrong stuff and then spend even more on the right stuff!

i got my gm 3" and maft with all piping by dejon, intake pipe, k&N filter, greddy type s BOV, and a few couplers on ebay for 238 shipped. new its like $1000 in parts. just do research and look for a while to get that deal you are looking for.

also i picked up a wally 255, boost gauge and mbc for 85 on craigslist. got rc 550cc injectors for 100 on craigslist from another guy and im picking up on monday a MHI small 16g (used for 3500 miles no shaft play), 3" thich FMIC with short rout piping, another greddy type s, pacesetter tubular header, pacesetter o2, and j pipe for $600 on craigslist.

so check local craigslist and ebay and the classifieds and you will find what you need.

btw i only paid $4000 for my GST with only 83,xxx on the odometer. found it on craigslist as well.

280+ hp car for $5000 is not bad LOL. im a poor college student so i learn to find deals

Wow! Those are killer deals!

I guess as long as you get quality parts, you can't go wrong?! Right?!

I definitely do plenty of research! You have to these days, with all the people tryin to scam money.

Keep up the good work!
