2g windshield defrost

this hasn't been covered much but i did manage to find it's just a dsm thing? even when my engine is hot as can be the windshield takes 20-30 minutes to defrost?? and when it does it does it in a weird squiggly line shape missing most of the windshield... i checked the cable it's fine and it does put out hot air, just not enough im guessing. is my only hope to rig up a tube system from the front vents to blow on the windshield like a dryer hose or something?

sounds like your HVAC box is stuck, involves removal of radio/console. Does it switch normally between the other settings?

It just happens. I've had 3 DSM's and it's happened in everyone.

i've already stripped most my interior so thats not a biggie to do, yea it switches between face/feet just fine and both put out good amounts of air. It's just the Defrost on the windshield that barely puts out anything, i thought the vents were clogged up or something but i can't seem to find anything... no pens or bullets or change that i can see.

I think I have the same problem on my 2g. Its like a big M on the windshield. Think the best thing would be using Rain-X anti defroster. I think thats ### its called. That seems to work but make sure you dont touch it after applied.

Anti-Fog is what your thinking of. It's caused by the placement of the vents. That's why the center usually is the last place to defrost.

Yea thats the name. The only problem is that the 2g defroster vents cant be moved. Wish they had a better design. My 1g never had a problem.

Sounds like you guys have defroster control cables that have either bent, or the housing has slipped out of its holder and you aren't getting full-travel on the selector flap.

Also make sure the AIR selector switch is on FRESH AIR INTAKE and not Recirculate. If you're trying to use the defrost in the recirculate mode it will not work well.

i did not know that it would'nt work under re-circulate mode. however, my method is turning on the a/c and switching the dial on vent/hot. works like a charm all the time...

YES the defrost will NOT work properly if you have the switch on Re-circulate. On the NEWER 2gb 97-99 it says right on the heater controls to ONLY USE DEFROST with the fresh air Mode.

The only time re-circulation helps you is when you want the MAXIMUM COOLING from the A/C in the summer.

it seems that it never works when its on fresh air, but when i place it on circulate it works faster.
