what t-case is this from

So I locked up my t-case and just got another one last night. Its suppose to be from a 1g. I go and try to put it in and the damn thing doesnt fit!

Like a dumb ass I didnt ask if it was from a automatic. So my question is does anyone know from a pic what t-case this is from? The one on top is the new one.

the top on looks like the one off my laser....count the splines i think they are diferent from 1g to 2g

My jdm transfer case didnt work on my US spec transmission. You probably mix and match parts. I dont think auto will make a difference I think it would be 90 or 91+. The different splines.

I just went out and slid the driveshaft on to the t case and it went right on. But it wont go on the tranny out put shaft. I counted the splines and they are both 23. If the drive shaft fit shoudlnt it fit the tranny since its a 23?
I have a 6bolt swap in my 95. The motor and trans are form a 91.

the splines that matter arent on the driveshaft end I dont think

they are also different from auto to manual due to gear ratios, dont know if the 1g manual is the same as a 2g manual ratio though.

you should count the splines again just to be sure. the transfer cases from the 90-91s were 22 spline and the 92 after were 23 spline. chances are that the case you got is a 22 spline. oh and im pretty sure that all of the driveshaft splines are they same.

I recounted the new t case its a 22 spline input, but the rear out put is 23. wtf?

your most likely going to have to change the output shaft in the tranny. its pretty easy. i can walk you through it if you want.

That would be cool! Now I just have to find that out put shaft. could you pm and get me in the right direction.
Thats not going to change the ratio in any way right?

Changing the output shaft will not change your ratios no.
That old case looks like its cast iron, while the new one looks aluminum, didn't know that both were made.

When I bought the motor and the tranny it was from a 92. The guy said nothing about the tranny being a 2g. I s there such thing as a 1ga and 1gb tranny?

1g's are the same, except for the linkage in 90.
The difference might be the 7 bolt bellhousing, I know the trans/engine plate spacer the starter is slightly off, but they were both 7 bolts, early and late.

Just checked mine, 1g is cast iron where the input shaft is.

yes the top one is a 1g because of where the fill plug is.

I tore apart the old t case and figured out I can swap out the drive bezel gear assembly to solve the spline problem. Process took about 15 minutes.


Heres the carnage from my blown t case. Bearings gone bad!
