BOV and MAF question.

Hi there..

recently bought a 96 Eclipse GST with the 4g63 block. runnin stock boost. only mod is a big front mount intercooler and open air filter.

ive been thinking of getting a new BOV for it.. its runnin a Greddy type RS COPY BOV atm. called WBV-01 i believe. looks like this:

with a bell outlet. that is half recirculating into the intake. (half means that the hose dosnt fit 100% and therefor is leaking.. causing my car to fuel cut at 4100 rpm)

i could go the cheap way and get a new outlet that a hose would fit over. or upgrading the BOV to a better one and one thats ment to recirculate.

i dont know how the stock bov looks like or if its fitted on the origional flance or what. would be nice to know really. would prefere a direct fit.
any good suggestions on what to get?


Another question:
what is MAF? and what is my car running? a MAF sensor or an Air pressure sensor? the guy at the shop asked me this and i dont really know >.<

you have a MAF sensor, thats the big rectangle box connected to your intake cone or box, and i believe the bov on the 2g's are some type of slide in clamp bov's on the oem piping but you stated you have a fmic kit which probably has hard piping with a 1g flange. i would say ditch that bov for something you can fully recurculate such as a 1g bov. You said your cars getting fuel cut from venting your bov? dosnt make sence.
 
Get a HKS SSQV with a recirculation adapter, just my $.02

You'll need a 1" hose about 5-6" long to connect the BOV to the stock intake. Not reciculating caused my car to sutter bad around 3500-4200prm. Check the gap on your plugs, run them about .028 this helped me.

if does fuelcut since the hose around it is very bad fitted by the previous owner.. so it sucks false air into the engine witch causes it to fuel cut with alot of boost. like a boost leak.

If the guy asked you what you had then you dont need him to repair your car. Would you like to bring your baby to someone that knows nothing about your car. I think not. I tried that one time an he tried to get me to replace a cv boot that he couldnt get out of the spendle an my trans. All becuaswe he didnt know how to take it out right an said it was rusted in.
 
why does it fuel cut then? isnt it because it gets to much air compared to the fuel it can deliver? (im pretty new to this, thats why its in the newbiee section ;))

if i floor the throttle i get fuel cut around 4100-4500 rpm. and only if i floor it or almost floor it.
 
When the engine is sucking in more air than the fuel system can cool the combustion chambers with, fuel is cut off in order to save the pistons.
Sucking air in through an intake leak won't be sensed by the MAF in order to cause fuel cut, and under boost, extra air won't be drawn in- it will blow out.
 
so how am i gonna make it stop?

but im pretty sure that it will suck in air and not blow it out.. since its just after the maf.. and its not like it blows air out of the cone air filter neither.. on the intake BEFORE the turbo it creates a vacuum, after the turbo it creates pressure. correct me if im wrong.
 
Your issue is not fuel cut. Your running lean under boost because you have a leak between your air meterng system,(your maf) and the turbo. Your actually running slightly lean all the time most likely but under boost it worsens. I woud say just remove the bell from the bov and find a short piece of pipe to thread in there with some sort of sealant and replace the rubber hose attaching the bov to the intake pipe. once you seal up that area you will be able to go wot to redline unless there is another issue as well.
 
thank you! finally an answer that fitted my thoughts.. since some said that wasnt the problem >.< but ive just mailed a company in the US about shipping to denmark. if i get a decent price ill order this asap. and hopefully fit my GReddy Type RS COPY perfect.
 
ya had it out yesteday and messured it to 29mm.. ill post again when i get the piece ;) hopefully it will solve my problem.
