My issue: So I start up the car today and let it sit at idle for 25+ mins or so. I can feel the top rad hose temp increasing as well as the rad itself. So I check my logger, and my coolant temp is now around 195-200. The first observation is the main fan hasn't turn on yet, and for 2 the bottom hose going to the rad is kinda pressure less and very cool. The car coolant temp on the logger didnt get above 205 or so but I'm not sure if things are working properly?
So after this occurred I turned the car off and waited a little. Once it was cool enough, still (very hot) but i was able to take off the cap with a rag, a little spilled out .... but I could see a bit of 'steam' and the level was to the top of the cap opening. So I squeezed the lower hose and after a few times maybe 5-10 times the level fell about halfway in the top hose. I proceed to start the car with the cap off.. (thinking I would see the thremostat engage) but the coolant just started to rise and really didnt look to move at all. Again the bottom hose was cool still, the fan was on, and the top pipe was very hot... I had to quickly cap the cap before it spilled out.
With all that said... does any of this yield something bad or good?!?!
Note, I have a g2, This was from a pure cold startup (first time for the day) and only idle level for about 20-25mins..... I have the stock 13psi cap, stock thremostat, and hoses. but have the upgraded PWR radiator. The coolant is 50/50 with like 3 bottles of water wetter in it.
Not sure if i truly have a problem being its my thermostat, a pressure problem, or my water pump, or really all of them together.. any advice or testing specifics are greatly appreciated!
Or do I NOT have a problem, now I'm thinking it was flowing properly? I figured since the fan finally kicked on, the temp reached over 200, and the lower hose was very cool and the upper was lightly steaming, the valve cover was too hot to touch. Maybe this is normal idling temp and the rise in upper hosing was due to the themostat pushing hot coolant out to the radiator? Does the system flow up and out to rad or does it suck from top hose and down the bottom hose to the radiator?
Again it just seemed very hot for idling...
Thanks in Advance!
