Alright, where to start, ive had this car for about a year and a half now, ive been using the AFC as a tach since the stock tach and boost gauge do not work. Tonight i had some free time and decided i'd look into a theory i heard about the stock tach and boost gauge from a 1990 not working with other 1g wiring harnesses, which my car quite possibly has. This car was stripped and used as a race car, then converted back to stock. It has been pieced together from many cars i think. Its a real hoopty for sure.

Ill post links to four pictures of plugs i have found that are not connected to anything, and cannot be connected to anything nearby. (The car has NO emissions bs, so for all i know the plugs are in the intake manifold area, and could all be used for emissions purposes, if so, let me know :thumb: ) :)

Pic 2 (under coil pack): http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5593/picture044xh4.jpg

Pic 3 (was tucked up along the windshield area, and the end was just tucked down below): http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/1691/picture045og1.jpg

Pic 4 (random and small, right next to the firewall, i don't believe this is meant for anything important anymore) http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3928/picture046gj4.jpg

finally, i apologize for the friggin HUGE pics, but i want everyone to be able to see the plugs clearly hopefully. Thanks :thumb:

Ahh.. It gets harder to remember as time passes since mine have been gone.

1 I believe was a cruise or AC plug. AC likely since the ac fuse box used to be right in that corner

2 went to the front o2 I think

3 was ac I believe (although there are many plugs that shape and colour)

4 can't really see what your looking at there, but if you mean the ones that are taped to the harness, theres a couple things like that, one for turning on the fuel pump to drain the tank.. etc. leave them taped in place.

All in all, theres nothing there for your tach or boost. And I think they are both calculated by the ECU.

thank you very much, that was exactly what i was looking for. No AC in the car either, guess i shoulda mentioned that. Now back to trying to fix the tach i guess :p. I remember the guy said he had a hell of a time trying to get it to work, finally gave up and just spliced the afc into some wire that had the signal. Thank you again for identifying those. :D

No prob, I had a hell of a time trying to originally figure out what mine were as well, so that I could tear them out completely, without messing something up.

Have you tried another cluster?

There may be some clipped wires somewhere I 'spose, but I don't know where the signal comes from exactly off hand.

The previous owner was pretty smart, and he tried a couple different clusters. Well, he said he tried them, but he was just trying to sell the car and he knew i was going to buy it already. It could also have a 91+ ecu im thinking. I'm just trying to get the whole car sorted out this summer, find out what deal is with everything. By the way, i think the 2nd picture that looks like o2, i believe its smaller than the o2 plug, and the front o2 is hooked up, so i don't think its that. Its probably something with AC or emissions though, im not too worried.

a buddy had a '90 and there is some sort of tach translator or something he was talking about because it was causing issues with a COP setup. The tach translater was also only on the '90 versus other 1g's.

That's all I know, but maybe it'll head you in the right direction.

#3 looks like the radiator fan plugs. Can't tell if it's near the radiator, just remember seeing them a little bit ago.

EDIT: nevermind, ignore this post.

alright, so i the plugs have been pretty well figured out, can anyone point me in the right direction of fixing the tach. I may have heard something about the tach translator for 90s, but i am not sure what to check and where it would be if there is one. I honestly have no idea where to start, as im not sure if its a 90 ecu even. If someone could point me in the right direction to start checking options off for what it could be that would be awesome. Thanks :)
