So i finally got my new ACT clutch today, and i was wondering if when YOU blow out a clutch, do YOU always have to get the flywheel resurfaced or am i better off getting a new aftermarket flywheel? i believe there was an aftermarket clutch in the car before, but im not sure about the flywheel. Thanks guys.

Stock flywheels should be inspected and resurfaced if needed everytime you do a clutch job unless of some reason it has like 10 miles on it. Stock flywheels are ceptable to cracking and warping. Make sure to get a the right step height of .609 according to road race engeneerings page.

Aftermarket flywheels like the ACT chromoly are very strong and are very hard to warp. They may need to be resurfaced. I have always check it by touch and looked it over and ran them with no problems.

Fidanza and aluminum flywheels can and will warp. They need to be checked. Fidanza offers a replaceable friction surface to repair a bay surface.

I would just have your stock one steped to ACTs requirment.

yeah i wanted to use the stock one, but will that be able to hold up with a sprung 4-puck clutch? thanks for the info by the way. RRE is becoming my car tech bible along with these forums. LOL

I would not get a 4 puck sprung or unsprung ona daily driver if you like smooth engagement. It will chatter and will grab hard, which is not bad It will hold tons of power. But It will also put tons of stress on your drivetrain.

Check out act's website they rate every clutch combo's torque capacity. But the 4 puck is doable, its just something to think about. Also depends on what prssure plate your using. I myself am running a 2900 witha 6 puck sprung whenI get it running again. I did havea 2600 witha street disk and the engagement was as smooth as a stock disk.

A good read is vfaq.com That should be yor bible as well.

If you are going to get an aftermarket flywheel, get a Fidanza. I highly recommend it.

It is good practice to have the flywheel checked, unless you plan on doing that another day.LOL Might as well make it a habit while you have everything apart. I got my Fidanza on ebay for around 150 bucks.

There are lots of stuff that is easier to do while the trans is out. Get the flywheel resurfaced or buy a new one. It's the only way to get the most out of your new clutch. If you ever thought about new motor mount inserts, that rear one is waaay easier to do with the trans out (but it is still a huge pain). You can remove your charcoal canister (thanks joe), if you are planning on removing your A/C now would be the time. If you need to do a timing belt it's way easier to do this with the trans out. Just support your motor from underneath, pull your motor mount bolts out and you get afew extra knuckle saving inches to work with. I would replace the rear main seal, because it would suck to get it all put back together and then have that leak oil all over your new clutch.

Basically I've found the more you can get done while your car is down the better.
