Project 1G
Picked this '91 Talon TSi couple months ago. Rings were shot, dirty as hell from sitting out side. Managed to get the motor and tranny out. Busted a caliper mount off of the spindle while trying to press the axle out. Rear brakes are rusted stuck. Oh and almost all the studs are shot for the wheels.
So far Ive replaced the knuckle, tore down the motor and sent it to the machine shop, and bought and waiting for some rear calipers.
I wasnt really feeling the tan interior so I found some good deals and have proceeded to convert it to black/grey. Ive got everythign for that besides carpet, front seats and visors. I also managed to snag a rear hatch cover.
Ive decided that since its torn down that I might as well work on some paint. Better now when I cant drive than when thats all I can drive right? Im working on stripping the engine bay and front end panels so that the engine bay can be painted black.
As for exterior color Im undecided. I cant pic between Graphite Silver, Black, White, or a dark metallic red.
And though many have talked about it but most never go through with it, Im planning on changing the popups to stationary using the stock turnsignal piece. I plan on making it look as stock as possible, and welding the popup covers to the hood.
The best thing is how clean the shell actually is. If there is rust its small specks of surface, and the body isnt too bad except for dome dings and dents and the keying that somone so graciously added.
Well on to pics, and I love pics.

Wow, it looks like you have your work cut out for you. The body certainly does look to be in pretty good shape. As far as the paint, the gray and black talons always looked the best in my opinion.
By the way, I can't believe you can work is such cramped conditions, I'd probably snap and chuck a wrench through a window.

Instead of 30 minutes on here you need to spend that 30 minutes cleaning the garage.

The interior looks pretty clean. Yeah, you may as well do all the work now while it's not running. Good luck with that project. I'm thinking about getting an AWD Talon but, around here it's hard to find a good one for a good price. I may have to get a non-running one as well.

Are those the stock back seats? A different colour like that?
.. But yeah, tidy up some, makes it much easier to work on the car, should you drop something your not looking for 20mins to find it again..

Tiptoe through the garage much? I too would lose it after a couple minutes in a spot like that. I had a hard enough time swapping mine when I had a huge place (not too clean, though). It's the "carrying something heavy while trying to not step on something important" that fries my brain.
The car looks like it's in great shape other than the engine. How many miles were on it? How many owners?
As for the color, I think you should try something that hasn't been done. There are so few variations that I've seen for the 1g's. I would go blue if I had the money.

And I also had a question about my shift cables. In the pic you can see that the boot is torn and that the end pops out now. Is there anything I can do to fix it or should I just replace? Theres a wrecked 1g at the scrap ward so I guess it wouldnt kill me to replace, just cost a little.

Almost ready for the clean up before paint. I decided just to get everything outof the way of areas you could easily see. I need to take out a few brake lines and the power booster so I can get back there still.
Oh and does anyone know about the whole shift cable deal I have?
And I had evidense that a furry little creature called my motor home from all the fur and droppings I found in the intae manifold pocket (below the TB). I think I found where he spent some more time. I took out the wiper motor and behind it some fur and nesting stuff. Now I have to find a way to vaccum or blow it out.

Haha you got lucky.
My car sat for 7 years, there was ant nests in both front lower fenders, to the point where a power washers would not make short work of.
The interior had been completely trashed and scraped thanks to the owner and all the critter and mice.
Though mine does not have no rust. I saved it in time.
Looks like you did get a great deal on that thing.
What next wire tuck?

Sorry for the delay in updates. Ive got one side of the enginen bay painted now. I managed to vacuum out the little nest when I took te cowl off, and I got one of the rear calipers off and new one on. I ened up taking a cut off wheel to the mounting braket so I could get the rotor off and drill out the mounting bolt. Those calipers are ruted together like no other. At least thats pretty much th only rust on this car haha. Thanks for Kittay on here for the great deal on te rear calipers too.
Also got my ACL Race bearings in the mail along with new pistons. Got word back from the machine shop that they're basically done with the machining so I'll have the rods reconditioned and the pistons put on, then I can bring it all back home to be assembled. Oh and I'll be ordering some ARP hardware as well soon.
Cant wait for this weekend tho, the local car club (Eau Claire Sports Car Club) is hosting an autocross event and my buddy in his '95 Talon AWD will be runnin it along with my other friend in his 2.5 RS Impreza. We just need to finish the 14b swap on the Talon before Sunday. Man I wish my car ran. Maybe I can talk my bud into letting me use his other car, '94 Accord .

Nah just a little suface rust on the rotor, I'll get them surfaced.
Could sombody give me some suggestions on this dumb brake. I cant for the life of me get the e-brake cable to break loose from its mount on the driver caliper. Its the circular part that the cable slides into and is held by a c clip of sorts. Ive been trying to drive it out with a hamer and screwdriver and lots of penetrating oil. No go. The other side came out fairly easy by just using a pliers and wiggling and pulling.

They are seized to the rotor. Hammer or a bigger one and a pry bar.
But the caliper will need to be replaced, or rebuilt if its in good condition.

Did you already get the clip off or is it stuck? Have you detached the little rubber bracket part that is right before the little part that you have to twist? In other words can the cable pivot on the point that attaches?
(Wow, those parts are hard to explain.)
Oh, and is the parking break on?
That little pin on the end of the cable is just like the throttle cable. You'll need to make sure that it stays completely level to the hole and the cable needs to be completely perpendicular to fit through the slit in the side. If you're having trouble keeping it straight, use some pliers to hold the cable perpendicular and wiggle it back and forth while using a long screwdriver under to push/pry upward.

Not sure if you guys could understand the part I was talking about, it is a bit hard to describe haha. Its right here (this is on the new caliper, the other side is stuck). And yes I removed the clip.
