:talon: hey i found this stage3 2.3l stroker on slowboyracing for my 6bolt. im a phone call away from ordering it. please give me your thoughts as of a sstroker and expierences. thank you
Kit Includes:

Custom SBR Pro-Billet Aluminum Rods Or Manley Rods (YOUR CHOICE)
Custom SBR racing pistons ( big shot of nitrous welcome, lots of boost etc... They'll Love It! )
Clevite Main Bearings
Clevite Rod Bearings
New 4G64 crank

SBR Ross Racing 6 Bolt Stroker Piston Compression Ratio - 7.5:1

Manley 6 Bolt OR GRP Aluminum Extreme Rod Length - 5.900"

Now if your wondering how this stroker setup works, the 4G64 crank provides the extra stroke, while the stock length 6 bolt rod is used. The "voodoo machinist magic" is all in the piston. The stroker style pistons allow for the extra stroke and this makes the whole system work.

If you look closely, Ross Racing put some serious overtime into designing these pistons for SBR. They basically worked with the idea of make them ready for whatever the customer will throw at them. They are designed to run your choice of boost, nitrous, fuel etc. These pistons are hard banodized a beautiful olive drab green so you know they didn't come to win on looks!

The 2.3 liter stroker is one of our favorite engine build ups because it is a very basic system that makes good torque in the bottom end and will also help you spool that large turbo you have your eye one! This is a bad, bad, bad setup with your choice of Manley or GRP Aluminum rods.

What exactly are your goals for the car? Seems like this is kind of overkill for anything that isn't a full out drag car.

It Going To Be My Play Toy. I Lie In St. Louis And Thrus Thru Sunday There Is A Different Meet At Nite We All Hang And Race. And I Want To Run Low 10s On The Gt35r. But I Dunno It Something Different I Guess.

To the OP, I wouldnt reccomend the GRP rods with the stroker setup, you have to clearance the bottom of the cylinder. You need to have .060 rod/wall clearance and with the fatter GRP rods you need to double the amount of material taken for clearance reasons. I would do the STG 2 with a set of I beam rods and ross pistons. Also if you plan on driving the car on the street the alum. rods arent suitable for that. If you have any other q's just shoot me a PM.

I agree, the aluminum rods would not be worth it. I don't even think the I beam rods would be worth it, especially for a weeekend toy sort of thing. Tim Zimmer is making ~800whp on his 2.3, and he is using Eagle H beams.

i bought the stage 3 stroker hit from slowboy with the groden aluminum rods for a seven bolt and had nothing but problems. first of all they sent me the wrong compression ratio pistons, then once i got the short block assembled the rods wouldnt clear the bottom of the cylinder wall. So i had to grind out grooves on the bottom of the cylinder walls to get enough clearance and then when i finally got it to turn over media blast and other metal shavings fried my bearings because they plugged the oil galleries before they remained the crank so all the crap was jammed up in there even after i thoroughly cleaned the crank before install. then when i turned it over oil pressure must hast dislodged it and it scraped up all the bearings. And slowboys response to all of this was "not our problem, you should have cleaned the crank better." If you do it get a NEW crank!

That Sounds Like Alot Of Work. I Like The Choices I Have Better With The Stage 2. Thanks. Whats Your Opion On Rods Though. They Dont Give Me A Choice Of Eagle H Beams.

Eagle H Beams are under Stage 1. H beams come with stage 1, I beams come with stage 2. The deciding factor would be what your final HP goal was. My suggestion for wither H or I beams would be the Manley rods. They are decently priced and are very durable.

I"m lost here if you guys at SBR aren't recommending the stage 3 kit than why even offer it. WHo would that kit be good for? I"m looking to build a track car that could see the street every once in a while that will hopefully make 650whp. Are I beams the way to go or the billet rods? You say clearance is a issue with the billet rods would going .040 or .060 over cure that?

We dont...after finding out that the GRP rods had some serious clearance issues.

Stay away from SBR Engines!!!!!!!! I know too many people with bad thing to say about there engines. Like it takes weeks to get them an when they get them there rusted. I had one friends that his 2.3 was rusted sold. He had to get the engine rebuilt. With that being said you know there SBR will not take back there engines. Due to rusting. So I strongly suggest no. Goto RRE they make great 2.3's or Showdown Motorsports they make great 2.0's FFWD pricey. 6k for a stock internal engine. JAM is good better price's than FFWD but not as good as RRE an Showdown. Magnus if you got the money go there.

I not only know how to put an engine together but I have connections with local machine shops as I work in the wholesale parts field so not that they do or don't build good or bad engines but no point paying extra for something I can do myself for less. I just need a internal setup that will handle 650whp. I talked with Jeff from SBR and he said 2.0 is the way to stay. STill not 100% sold on that but I will add that everyone including shep and Jake that tried stroker went back to 2.0 so I think I may just stick with the 2.0. As of now Wiseco HD pistons and Manley I beam rods with a treated new OEM flywheel or eagle crank I think is what I'll get.

Well...first off, they are built to order. We have a full machine shop next door so everything is done in house, unlike most of the rest of our competitors which have to have the machine work second sourced, which makes us capable of getting engines out quicker. Second, you are more than 100% lying. Out engines are fully lubed, sealed in a plactic bag and boxed in a crate before they leave here, so NO your friends engine that "came from us" was not rusted solid, unless he picked it up from the freight provider and dropped it in a lake for a week or so. If you could pm me with the names of thes eso called friends or customers of ours, i will gladly call them and get everything situated. My bets are i wont get a single name. :thumb:

everyone I know that has ordered anything from them has had complications.. I order everything from extremepsi.com and have had everything in a couple days no issues. my buddy ordered a dart block built for his 00 si and it took almost 6 months for him to get it his dad had to call and finally get a lawyer before he got it I know cause the car sat at my house for almost a year before it ever got done, and they can call b.s. all they want his name is charles gomes and he lives in panama city florida and has a reciept for it. they have a bad rep with everyone i've ever talked to. do your research and look around, if you plan on going aluminum rod I have a built aluminum rod 2.0 I drive everyday that sees 35 psi daily full garrett and did a 19 hour drive 2 weeks ago, just find a reputable person/ machine shop and do it yourself...

There are definitely other better options out there...You've already seen that SBR has options on their site that they just flat out don't recommend! They can claim that the site isn't updated, but as a professional programmer by trade (hell, even a novice would know this) - it takes NO time to remove a product from your company website if you don't believe in it.

I live about 35 minutes away from SBR, and do you know what stroker engine just went into my 2G this summer? One from FFWD. I tried talking to SBR about having one built for me since they are local and wanting to do business locally, and you know what? It's just not worth it.

Good luck in your decision!

Leave the vendor reviews in the vendor review forum. When have a special website just for you. If you havn't had any experience with the vendors product, you really can't post there about it either. And so posting here about it is very out of line.

There's a few of these slowboy blocks in the 10s. So they are built for where you each have never taken a 4g6* motor.

You'll soon notice he is thee worst poster in the dsm world.. haha.. He gets warned all the time on the link board for spitting out things that make no sense, or are complete nonsense. We keep telling him just to sit back and read, but unfortunately that just gives him more ammo to twist into something totally different that he "read somewheres" and spreads around as facts as if he's lived them all, or used this, or did that... :toobad:
