First, yes I'm a "Noob" here. I've searched alot on this site, other forums, as well as general Dogpile and Google searches. I'm new to the DSM scene, but not cars/mechanical work/engine swaps/rebuilds etc... I currently own a 94 Eclipse GS with the 4G63 N/T and an automatic tranny. I bought the car for $350 with a frozen engine. The body and interior are outstanding with a fresh paint job only a year ago. I know the 4g63 is a common engine that should maintain mounting points, but not enough experience with this car to be 100% certain. I didn't buy a Turbo model because I wasn't even looking for a car, it was just a good deal and my oldest son is going to need a car in about a year. I've come across a 90 Laser (supposedly Turbo and AWD with a 5 speed (Lasers weren't available with AWD till 92 right?)) without a title for $300. I'm told the car runs great with 105,000 miles on it. So here's my dilemma.... Is the 1990 4G63 turbo going to have the same mounting points as the 1994? Where is the ECU located (am I going to have to remove the entire dash assembly to get to it)? I know the Auto to Stick transformation isn't going to be real fun, but it's not really that bad either. I'm not even touching the AWD conversion on here. Thanks for any and all help and/or information. I'll do my best not to be a PITA to anyone here.

The grenade in your hand is missing not only its pin, but the handle over the firing pin as well.

Before there is horrible bloodshed, please do some basic looking around before diving into the deep end. There be sharks.

The "swap" you propose is very, very, very difficult. Consider it a hair's width from impossible.

Non-sense. I accomplished this swap myself. A 93 Eclipse GS turned turbo via a 1990 Laser RS-T (however it was FWD to FWD, as is your). Also I did not do the auto to manual conversion, but all the parts you need lay before within the two cars you own. I will say that this will not be an easy task but far from impossible. I consider a FWD to AWD swap much harder (which I assisted in one of those as well).

impossible, um almost. Worth the time and effort, NO. What do you just like the 94 body style or something? Here is what i would do although it's illegal LOL. You peel all the vins off your 94 non turbo and put them on the 90 lazer awd?. Wait a minute you say 90 awd? It's either A: not a awd B: AWD swap C: a 92 or newer lazer(what kind of headlights does it have? pop up or non pop up?Switching the vins is illegal but can be done, trust me. If you would do that which i'm not saying its a good idea. You better just to be safe do a 1gb front conversion, although alot of people may not realize it. But all it takes is for one cop to pull you over and realize it's not a 1gb and you will wish you never switched the vins. If you really are deadset on changing the car to a turbo i would just keep it a front wheel drive turbo and it would be alot easier on you, but again not worth your time. Just go find a cheap turbo car.

From what o have read its not that bad as long as you go from fwd to fwd the mounts are all the same. As far as the ecu there are two routs you can either swap them out which is a long process or repin the one thats in the car if you want the diagram pm me and let me know i have one its also covered in on of the the threads on this site. Good luck and in my opinion don't touch the vins yes i can be done but do you want your kid to get pulled over in the car and wind up in jail over vin fraud????

that might just be the worst idea i have ever heard in my life, the cop is deff going to know that its fake when he gets pulled over and runs the vin for a plymouth and it says in big letters on the back eclipse...dont have to be to smart to figure that one out, as for the turbo conversion, not hard if you take your time ive done it every thing can only fit in one place in the case of running into a problem, the search button is your friend dont fear him, almost every problem known to dsm has been discussed, as for it being a waste of time, that kid is going to have alot on other kids all he has to say is wow what did your dad buy you that fast car, well me and my dad built this one, some people get satisfaction out of takeing a slow non turbo car and building it into a fire breathing machine!

my note to you middleton is that you should build your car dont get me wrong your going to spend alot of late nights in your garage (im assuming your oldest is going to help you) you two are going to have a blast together my father, me, and my best friend did my conversion and we are having the funnest time of our lives we just throw on some tunes get my haynes manual greasy as hell and pretty much laugh almost the hole time its really nothing you have to be serious about. have fun and im sure you and your son are going to have a much better relationship when your done (its alot of bonding time ROFL),

my friend had a non turbo then bought a tsi awd and im building my gst and he talks about launching better than me, all i say is who built their car and who bought it? and he shuts up LOL.

any p u s s y can buy a fast car, it takes a real MAN to build one.

good luck and go for it:dsm::talon::laser:

^ I agree completely. Yes they have the same mounting points. The ecu is located under the dash behind the radio.
