Tranny shift problem

This question is for my 1997 Eclipse rs, not the gsx, i got the car and the guy said the tranny was bad, when i drive it the car only stays in second gear. The check engine light came on so i ran the codes and found out there were 3. Vehicle speed sensor malfuntion, gear 1 incorrect ratio, and tcm malfunction. The speedo doesnt work also, i had an old 95 rs that i took the tcm out and swapped them but still doesnt work. I also have a spare tranny that i can get the vss out of and swap them, could these things fix the problem or something else to blame?

Replace the VSS first, reset the ECU/TCU, and see what new problems arise. A bad VSS can cause the first and second of those codes. I'm not sure if it can throw the third.

i had a problem just like that. I just changed the Tranny fliud, and it seemed to help alot. Its only been a week tho. But so far no problems.

Is this a 5-spd or an auto??
Tranny Fluid doesnt throw 3 CEL's. Nor does bad fluid cause lack of gear change.

if this is a 5-spd, then if the car is STUCK in gear, look towards the TOB, since it is a release bearing for the clutch - and its purpose is to RELEASE the gear.

The speed sensor prob could be that the gear in the trans is broke. MIne is a 5 speed and every trans i have ever had breaks the pos plastic gear and the speedo doesnt work. I am presuming the auto and 5 speed should relatively be the same in set up but not sure

Well im not a pro or anything, but like i said... before i changed my tranny fluid my car wuld stay in 2nd gear. Then when i get lucky... it wuld suddenly JERK and shift to 1st, then 2nd, 3rd, then overdrive. So i recommend just CHANGING the fluid. Its an Auto, itll help. I havent had any shifting problems since then.
