Hey guy i am having problems get the exhaust manifold out and the stud in the turbo out. I am changing from a stock to a dn manifold and i want to know how to get the manifold out and then know how to remove the stud in the turbo. I am not upgradeing the turbo rigth now be let on and I am keeping the stock 14b turbo in rigth now so can you guys help me out. Do i have to drop down the downpipe and then remove the monifold and I dont know how to get the stud out.:dsm:

No dude a buddy of mine helped me fix my turbo when i had my 1g tsi awd and it was quite simpler than i thought. He never even touched the o2.

1 - Spray the 4 exhaust manifold bolts that hold the turbo with enough wd-40 and let it sit there for about 3-5 minutes minutes, in the meantime unbolt the power steering bolts and set the ps and ps belt aside for room to work in.

2 - With a ratchet and extension remove the 4 turbo bolts. The longer the extension the easier it will be to remove those bolts. Then remove the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the head.

3 - Take out old manifold and drop the new one in. ***Dont forget to put in the turbo-to-manifold gasket back in***.

4 - Bolt everything back up and then the ps back in for last. Its simple. Might require some man power if anything :tease:

Good luck

So how did you get the stud out of the turbo housing?:dsm: and i have all new bolts for the turbo.

.

1 - Spray the 4 exhaust manifold bolts that hold the turbo with enough PB Blaster and let it sit there for about 3-5 minutes minutes, in the meantime unbolt the power steering bolts and set the ps and ps belt aside for room to work in.

Fixed it for you, wd-40 dosent do shit. If your trying to get a bolt loose PB Blaster is the way to go.

He isnt asking how to remove a stuck bolt. He is asking how to remove the stud. Some people have had luck using a pair of vise grips to take it out. I always lock two nuts together on the stud and loosen it using the bottom nut.

+2 Usually have no problems doing this. also, if you do end up having a stuck bolt in the future, putting a pipe on your wrench will help greatly. Adds torque:thumb:

So to get the stud out of the turbo housing i would put two nuts on it. lock two nuts together on the stud this will work? and do you think i should lower the downpipe? and maybe take the downpipe off so the manifold comes out easy.:dsm:

I didn't have to take my dp off, but if your planning on moving the whole turbo, i guess you could. You'll have to take oil and water lines off of the turbo to drop it down some. Would be kinda pointless if youre not upgrading your turbo though.

I JUST installed my punishment racing manifold today and ran into the same problem. I can definitely vouch for the locking nuts method - worked like a charm! good luck.

ps: took off the top left "stud" :coy: during the removal hahaha. Seems to be true that most people will always lose at least one

:dsm:So just put on two bolts on the stud and that will break it free and then the manifold will come off.
