Fuel issue

ok not sure if this should go here or not, but... I have a 91 eclipse 2.0 auto. the cars runs great, and starts fine. until it sets over night when it is cold out side. i live in Il so this time of year its damn cold.
Now after you get it started the fist time it is good to go all day long with out any problems. i had a local mech look at it for me ( mainly becuse he as a ecm decoder) and he is saying week fuel pump is the problem and has to build up presure in the mornning. but it runs great.

If the fuel pump is the problem???? I have a 92 eclipse parts car. but in the interchange book cars made before jan of 91 use a difrent pump than those after feb.
What is the difrence between the two fuel pumps? presure? or how it mounts to the tank?

You didn't even describe your problem; how are we supposed to help?

If you're not throwing a check engine light, i dont think he'd find any codes with his OBD reader.

To see if the parts are interchangeable, one way is to see if advance / autozone lists the same part number for the two years.

i believe huffman is right, a dying fuel pump wouldn't throw any codes. how long have you had the car? how long have you lived in illinois? where i'm going is this: cars behave differently when cold, and if you don't have a lot of experience with cold... welcome to the club.

i have lived in or around fargo, nd my entire life - take it from me (or anyone that lives in rural minnesota, michigan, wisconsin, or eastern north dakota), new cars have problems starting when the temperature gets far enough below zero. there are MANY possibilities for why the car has issues starting (i'm assuming that's your problem).

here's a start for checking things to make sure your car does its job next winter:
spark plugs and wires
fuel filter
make sure you use ethanol polluted fuel to keep lines from freezing (but only in the winter)
battery
battery cables
starter cables
fuel pump
alternator
starter

there are several other factors, but those just come to mind first. i listed them in approximate order of ease/cost of replacement. depending on how you drive and how long each time, you may not experience the symptoms of some of those items being in need of replacement.
