Finally my car is going to be done. it's been down since August. its been hell but its been worth it. i got the car in July. after 2 days of owning it i was going to class and it was overheating bad, the head gasket blew. Trailered it home. i bought a set of ARP head studs, MLS gasket, new timing belt, and water pump. 2 days later the car began to overheat really bad. i let it cool down then on the way home it died. the damn engine skipped a tooth. Had it trailered and had it ONCE AGAIN trailered home. i said screw it and pulled out the engine and i found a bearing for the balance shaft in the oil pan. so thats what destroyed my engine. so i was like no problem i'll just put the balance shaft delete kit. once i pulled the engine apart, i notice the cylinders were messed up and the crank was no good it has deep scratched on it. a month or so later i was looking for a new block. then worst possible thing happened, i lost the house i was living in with family. almost had to sell my car cause it was in pieces in my garage had no where to store it. luckily my friends dad let me store it at his place. few months later found one some guy had for sale. he said it spun a bearing. i drove 2 hours to go pick it up. the dumb ass left it outside so the had some surface rust in them. i was like no problem i pulled the engine apart. it had brand new wiseco 9:1 pistons in it. hell of a buy. honed the engine, damn #4 cylinder had a pit from the rust. besides that one they were all good still. so damn still have no block. finally found a block for $50. so from then on i took my crank in and had it turned, they had to take .10 off the crank, machined my rods had had ARP rod bolts on them, bought a new head, a new turbo cause mine was no good, 2g man cause my old one was cracked, better clutch my old one was burnt, fuel pump, brakes. 5 months of this crap of trying to keep it togetheri finally i put my new engine together get to drop my engine in and get to drive my car:):

I'm in the same boat brother. My "grey" DSM has been down since October. Spun a rod bearing. I'm waiting on a crank from SBR for that one. My Silver DSM has been down since Mid-January due to the clutch fork (I'm assuming here). I definitely know how you feel. I spent the last of the money on the crank for "grey" before "silver" went down. Now I don't even have the cash to fix my daily driver. I think I'm gonna do like blcknspo0ln and prostitute for parts.

Wow thats commitment to your car!!:thumb: i dont ever want to have that happen to me! keep us posted how everything turns out!

Welcome to the club. If your in it for the long run though, you will realize that's nothing. Now you have a rebuilt engine, and don't need to worry about it for the life of the car.

Congrats man, my car has been down for a year now for a restoration. Just finishing it up now...cant wait myself... keep going!

Something tells me that we all do the long wait while trying to find money, time, parts for our cars. I threw a rod in my 95 GST about 2 yrs back and still haven't gotten all the parts for it yet. Our 92 Laser is also sitting waiting for the transmission rebuild. We just picked up a 97 GST Spyder that is missing several parts such as a turbo, inter cooler, and needs a rebuild on the engine as well. At least we should be able to get my 95 up and running by combining the parts from the 95 and 97. But that will still be a few months down the road when we have the time. Luckily we have the 92 GVR4, 95 Talon ESI, 92 Nissan 240SX, and the Chevy Suburban running so it not like we have no vehicle to use. Just looking forward to driving my GST again after so long.

Good Luck man, I'm selling my El Camino right now so I can start a DSM project. I've already owned two (Eclipse GS-T and Laser), but never got around to them...Now I'm down to a motor, transmission, now I need a body for them.

Nice The same thing happened to me but it was after a week I bought my talon drove for a week was fooling around and lost first gear from a bad wear on some gear. Then from me takin off from second for 2 weeks i destroyed my forks so i am just going to do a rebuild i just need to save money for this one then stash some for the next problem so i dont have to wait

Congrats bro, glad that you've finally hit some good luck and hopefully this engine will work out for you! Now you have to pray for me, while I sit in Germany, waiting for the GS-T... Lost my title (during my move from NC to GER), had to send off for a new one, awaiting for it now (should be here shortly), then I have to go through the not-to-fun process of shipping my car to germany (At least it's free for me!). But I have to get it from NC to SC, fun fun! Then when I get it here I can finally finish my long wait, to begin another!! :p!! Anyway glad to see someone having some good luck!^^

Good luck on the rest of the rebuild.

Yeah 1 month after I bought my DSM, the headgasket blew. I ended up taking it to a local shop (BIG Mistake). If I would have know I would have taken the time to do it myself. They had the cams reversed and the balance shaft was way off. So the car sound like the exhaust was going to rattle its was off. But life is a constant learning process.

Man im glad to hear it. I bought my first talon with a blown motor. Put a new one in, Drove it 70 miles, Sold it. It jumped timing on the guy who was driving it home.
