i have been told the evo 8 turbo will not work on our cars what is the reason for the. I've been told it's something about they have a twin scroll turbo as does the srt4 what is that?

It's BACKWARDS. Like trying to fit a 4G63 into an engine bay that previously held a 420a. That and the manifold flange is a different footprint than a standard Mitsu flange.

Twin-scroll just means that the turbine flange is divided, increasing spool speed.

Im sure with some modifications it will fit, i researched it a bit with a setup i obtained for fabbing up. Conclusion was that it will probably only work on a 2g gst. Reason being the turbo would mount backwards...facing the alternator side, which is no biggie, just relocate the alt. but the downpipe is where the issues lie. The 1gs wont work because the motor mount will be in the way of the o2 housing so they will not work. The 2g will because the mount is on the trans, not the block, but only for FWD because of the t case, that will become an issue with the downpipe. I havent done it yet, i plan on it, but as of now im going to have to say the 2g gst is the only option for an evo 8 turbo. It wouldnt be very practical but it would be kinda cool.

Someday, someone will be bored enough to merge all these BS threads together. Till then, happy hunting, Mods. :toobad:

I've seen this done with my own 2 eyes. This genius fabbed up some adapter plate and drove it around with no cooling fans because none would fit. He also had the nerve to tell me I didn't know what I was doing because I have a recirculated SSQV :toobad: It's an asian kid in a red 2ga here in Hayward. If anyones seen him ask him how it's running.

There are already a bunch of threads with all of the information you need to figure this out. Try the search.

As searching doesn't seem to actually happen (who would search, reallY?), I'll add what knowledge I may have. The engine is mounted transversly (i.e. a mirror image of the dsm 4G63). This means everything is backwards. Look at a photo of the big16g for a DSM, and then look at a photo of an evo's big16g. Notice how they're mirror images of each other? This is why it doesn't just bolt up.

I haven't looked closely. But, it would be nice if you could just insert the cartridge from the evo's turbo into the stock 14B exhaust housing.

^What don't you guys get about reverse rotation?

Transverse means perpendicular to the centerline of the car. That makes both the new Evos' and DSMs' engines transverse. :thumb:

OP, who cares if it can be done. What you should be asking is whether it's worth the trouble (hint hint, it's not). Do like someone else said and just get a regular 16g.

i just figured from a prvious thread i started that the evo turbo is one of the biggest differences in power compared to the the eclipse. also i've seen a lot of evos go fast on their 16g's that's why i figured that turbo would be a good choice if i could get one cheap

It's a good street turbo, but simply not worth the time and effort to make a custom manifold, downpipe, and charge piping. There are plenty of other turbos out there that will make the same power and won't require all that work.

Hehe. That's what I meant, but I ended up just spewing out some advertising terms to describe my thoughts.

That was exactly what I told the guy I met. His response to that was "the evo3 is played out...too commercial....besides, I can beat your 16g car with my evo8 turbo!". Needless to say, he was very wrong....and he put in all that work to have a slower car that overheats. It's sad really.

The 16G does make alot of power, but you might want to have injectors and a fuel pump to make all that power. I have a 16G and it scoots when you hit boost, but I need the injectors. Whatever you decide were just helping. good luck!!!

You could get a better turbo or more supporting mods with the money you would spend on making the EVO 8 work. The EVO 8 turbo and EVO 3 are very similar when it comes to how much power they can make, they just designed to mount differently.

after reading about how big of a pia it would be i will probrably do what i intended to do on the spyder and do a 50trim setup

I know its a fairly old thread, but i didn't wanna start a new one.

I was looking into getting a 16g for my turbo setup that I'm putting together, would the EVO 8 16g be better to get for the 420a since the engine is on the same side as the Evo?
