Just had my clutch replaced with a Spec Stage II+ clutch 100 miles ago, transmission fluid changed to BG Syncroshift II
Car has always had deceleration whine from somewhere in the drivetrain, however now it is worse than ever. When letting off the throttle in high rpms and beginning to engine brake the whining noise goes up and down as the car settles to engine braking. Whine is then constant and decreases in pitch until 3000 rpms when the noise stops completely. I'd say it sounds like the rear differential gears but I think the noise is coming from the front. Only makes the noise decelerationg, no noise when the clutch is pressed in. No clicking noise when turning. Any ideas?

The oil in your transfer case probably is too high of a viscosity. I would change the oil in your transfer case with the recommended gear oil (85w-95w I think). I experienced the same whine, and changing the transfer case oil eliminated the whine.

After spending a day at the transmission shop they said the noise was either the transfer case or the front differential. This leads me to believe that the clutch is the problem, because the transfer case would have just broke and how could the front dif magically go bad?
Spec Stage 2 Clutch, resurfaced flywheel, oem tob, BG syncroshift synthetic fluid
Loud deceleration whine and metallic vibration above 3k rpm, possibly the clutch out of balance? See this link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dri...idanza-6-puck-now-having-noise-vibration.html
Taking the car back to the shop which did the clutch monday, what could they have done wrong with the install or is this just the noise the clutch makes, any other Spec owners have this happen? Please help the noise is so loud I am no longer driving my car.

It does sound like a bearing noise from how you describe it, i doubt it is the clutch. When you install a faster/harder grabbing clutch, it puts added stress on the driveline and bearings in the gearbox, they could have been on their way out before and the added stress was what finished it off.

After having a muffler shop and a transmission shop inspect my car noone has been able to pinpoint the cause of the deceleration vibration and whine. The only possible cause is the clutch. THe clutch seems fine when driving/accelerating but under decelleration there is a loud whine and vibration. I'm thinking the clutch/flywheel is out of balance. The shop which did the install keeps passing it off as nothing. Any idea what they could have gone wrong to cause this. Thanks for all the help

My 90 TSI has been doing the same exact thing lately,,,,,any help will be greatly appreciated. I have checked all the fluids and am getting to the point of pulling all the drivetrain out and inspecting. I too had a clutch put in (stg3 with a light weight al fly), and now wonder if the shop didn't mark the driveshaft and when they put it back into the transfer case if it isn't out of balance that way? (even if they did, I have no clue how to check for it).

Had a spec stage 2 installed with ACT flywheel...changed tranny fluid to MT90, transfer case and rear diff to heavyweight shockproof. I have the same problem. Did you figure it out?

OK, so I'm digging up an old thread, but I found my problem!! After replacing everything in my drivetrain, the sound went away. I disassembled all the parts (tranny, t-case and diff) and found my prob. The nut right behind the outside side of the transmission case (top one) was only finger tight. This was the only thing I found out of the ordinary in the complete drivetrain outside of normal wear and tear. Hope this helps someone.
