Ebay LSD?

I wouldn't trust it on much more than a midly modded stocker. I've heard that cars making any real power ( buschur told me anything over 300-350) will blow the stock diff apart with one of those in it and kill your trans. But, i've heard a few guys with minimal mods that have tehm and like them. I've been looking into a quaife since teh KAAZ unit can't be drag launched, even KAAZ told me to buy the quaife if i was going to drag AT ALL because there's are known to fail at the ring gear. The Best price i've found for a Quaife w/ everything needed to install ( bearings, speedo gear and a shim kit) was 1304.00 dollars to my door ( needless to say i dont' have it yet)

If some one here is making good power (400+) on a FWD with one of these, and it's lasted more than a year of going to the drags and street driving, I want to know. I might try one if there was proof they were anything but a grenade for your transmission under high horse power.
 
I have the kaaz lsd in my car and i think in a lot of ways it is better than the quaife. First it is cheaper as i only paid like $800.00 with mine. It is more agressive but still drivable. The lsd shown there on e-bay is not a true lsd and those are known to destroy transmissions when they do go or wear out. In my opinion you need to go with either the kaaz or the quaife and save yourself headaches. I also don't buy e-bay parts but that's just me. I believe in doing things right the first time and with ebay you may get a genuine part or you may get a knock off or worse.
 
I wouldn't do it, and I have quite a few 'ebay parts' on my car. I wouldn't trust an LSD though. If they were great someone would have tried one by now and word would have gotten out.
 
It just jams the spider gears up so that they can't spin, it's sorta like tossing a penny in the gears when they're moving LOL. I would prefer a KAAZ because of my road racing work in the summer and the feedback i hear from those who run them, but will be stuck with the quaife due to the reasons mentioned in my last post in this thread. ..now if i could only get the faith to put on my ebay coilovers
 
I have been running one of these inserts since 2003 and have not experienced any problems. And they do work.

However, I don't race or launch hard. I'm not sure how much HP/TQ my car is pushing, but I am running an EVOIII 16G set to a max of 18 psi. It's enough to light up the front tires through most of 2nd gear.

I'm not trying to pursuade or disuade you, just letting you know my personal experience. But like I said, it does work as claimed.

I beat the he!! out of my car. And it' daily driven. 2 years w/ a 60-1 at 30 psi, fp2x cams and an SBR lsd insert.

Shep drag races w/ the KAAZ. I think he has the power to break the unit if it were a weak component.

WOW.. if i could get away with running my 57trim at 28PSI on one of those i would be happy as hell, but i just don't trust them from all the horror stories I've heard about the inserts.

As for KAAZ and drag racing, I called KAAZ to order a diff because none of their vendors had any. That's when the guy in sales asked "what is your car mainly used for, because we recommend you go w/ a quaife if it's drag racing". I even tried to tell him i mainly just street drive and auto-x, and only drag about 2-3 times a year. And he still insisted that on slicks and launching hard that their own unit would fail and i should go with their competitor.

Now, i haven't had either of these units ( KAAZ or the insert) but i have a friend that ran an insert in his 97 eclipse with a 20g on it (it was the twin of my car, it was weird to park them together) but he wheel hopped and his tranny blew 3 times at the track in 2 years, so he just sold the car and get this...bought a damn honda LOL i think that's my next move, a great shifting, lightweight honda... LOL nah, just kidding, but i would take ANY of their trannys over a dsm one anyday :)
