I just swapped out my blown t25 with another one i got from a fellow member. One thing I forgot to get was a new turbo to o2 housing gasket. When I start the car and let it run for a while a bit of light smoke starts coming out of the gasket area, not excessive smoke but enough to notice. When I turn off the car it keeps smoking for about 5 minutes and then stops. I will be ordering a new gasket soon, but my question is, is it normal for there to be smoke coming from the exhaust side of the turbo? Its not from anything i might have got on the turbo because i have ran the car for a while so it would have burned off by now. THanks for any input

So, there IS a gasket in it? it's just the old one, correct? Either way, no it is not normal for it to smoke. There may be a crack in the gasket, over time it happens.

Did you remove the o2 housing previously? If so make sure that all the bolts and nut are torqued down properly.

Ya there is a gasket in there. i just swapped out the turbo and reused the same o2 housing and gasket. The smoke is coming through the gasket so i know i need a new one. There was very little shaft play on the turbo and it boosts up perfectly. I know smoke coming through a gasket is not normal, but are you saying that smoke coming from the exhaust side of the turbo is also not normal?

Correct, under normal conditions there should be no smoke, fumes, bunnies, anything coming out of anywhere other than the muffler.

(even then, no bunnies should be in exhaust....)

yes smoke comes out of the exhaust side of the turbo after all it is the EXHAUST side of the turbo. Ideally under perfect combustion there would be no smoke or very little. Also if your o2 housing gasket is messed up you will see it come from between there.
