Newmarket,
I have a 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Today I installed my Eibach Pro Kit springs, and Tokico HP shocks, no camber kit yet. What is weird about it, is the front drop is pretty much slammed, like 1 finger goes in between fender and rubber, and the back is like 4 fingers. I tried searching, and found a similar thread but with different set up, and the problem was that the mechanic put rear springs to the front, and front springs to the rear. Could this be my problem, or is it suppose to be like that? Anyone with same setup, or who knows for sure about this, can let me know? I need to know ASAP, as I will call him tomorrow, I was complaining about it today, and asking questions, but he just told me it is suppose to be like this, and his son, who also has same car as mine, but 1st gen, told me the same. I have no clue, and I hope someone here can seriously help me out, as I want to get it done ASAP, before anything goes wrong. Also if it was installed wrong, can anything go wrong, in the next 3-4 days? I am really worried. Although, my ride feels nice, no problems with the ride, really smooth, good handling, very nice. The only thing I am worried is the gap difference, which makes me very very worried. Please let me know. Thanks a lot in advance.

George.

ok now its like 1 inch drop front, and back is 3, they went down a bit, i drove around today, handles pretty nice still, but can feel it over bumps pretty much the same as before roughly. I was thinking he put it on wrong, but I called a few places, and guys where I bought the springs as well as mechanic, told it should be like that. I need to know if they are for sure on backwards, or not.

I'm not sure if it would make a huge difference or not, But did you pick up a set for AWD? Eibach springs are pretty uniform in the way they settle. Maybe one half to a three quarter inch difference between front and rear. I can fit my thumb in the gap up front and my pinky finger in the gap in the rear. Check and make sure you have the right setup for your application.

how can I identify if they have been put on backwards. many people are telling me it is fine like this. I am pretty sure I picked up the right set, I got it from PartSource, here in Toronto, they ordered it from Keystone. If I remember correct, two springs were shorter than the other 2, which ones go where? Also if I take off my wheels, how can I identify if they are on right or not, I wanna check, and if they are not on right, I'll bring it back to that mechanic who installed it.

It's raining here today pretty bad, I'll try to take pictures as soon as the rain clears up, so you see what I am talking about.

Assault187, I actually saw a guy with eibach pro kits on a GST as well, his was same as yours, his front was less lower, than the back. But small difference. yesterday I checked, mine is roughly like 2 fingers in the front, 4 fingers in the back.

Thanks guys.

My results are identical to yours. From what I've seen, Tokico shocks (awd) with Prokits (awd) ride low in the front and nearly stock height in the back.

But to be honest, you and me are the only one's I know of with 4 finger gap in the rear and a nice low front end.

The springs cant go in backwards (upside down) they wouldn't fit. I Installed mine with the .001 springs in the front and .002 springs in the rear. There was no documentation regarding these identifications, but it seemed reasonable to me that .001 was for the front since that is the first part of the car and then .002 would be the rears.

Edit: GST's are the ones I see with a nice even lowering of the entire car. Also the 95-96 AWD models seem to share that in common with the FWD's.

Thanks PieEyedPiper. My shocks feel fine, steering everything. I notice right now though my suspension is squeeking, every tire pretty much. It happens when I go over bumps mainly, or when I stand outside, and press on the car down. What could this be?

Sounds like your rears hiss like mine do when on low settings. Many Illumina shocks do this.
I would hear them hiss/squeak over bumps/speed bumps and definitely when I pushed down on the car.
1=loud hiss from inside and outside of the car
2=I can tell but I don't think anyone else could hear it
3-5 = hiss is inaudible

My solution? Put those rubber black caps back over the tops of the rear shocks. They removed 90% of all the hissing I was hearing, even on the first setting.

But maybe thats not what you're experiencing. Perhaps you just need to get yourself a can of silicon and spray down all your suspension bushings.

can you get some pics? I just installed the tokico HP combo and the front is noticably lower in the front.

The use of Tokico springs in your application makes any comparison to Illuminas + Prokits null and void.
Sorry.

Pictures, for whatever comparison you can get, are available all over this forum. Check out the gallery and search a couple threads in the Handling section for more good info and pictures of various shock/spring and even coilover setups. :thumb:

If I had any handy of my own, again for a "what its worth" type comparison, I'd post 'em for you. Maybe the OP has his digi cam ready.

I have Tokico HP shocks, non adjustables, not Illumina's. and Pro Kit. It's not really a hissing sound, more like a squeek, coming somewhere on the bottom behind the tire, i think. each tire. Sometimes its ok when going normal speed over bumps, but low speed, big bumps i can hear, or sometimes when i turn, very raraly though, and when I press down on the car. don;t think its coming from the shocks though, i am getting it checked this wednesday.

My mistake, to you and the posted above me, I thought you had Illuminas. Could be a few things, I have more ideas but Wednesday is getting close ;)

Could be something with the 97+ AWD models, cause my 95 has Tokicos and it's even on both front and back.

The front and rear springs look different and they have a different part # on them. If eibach had a descent site I could see the different part #'s but since there site sux I cant see them. The springs should also be installed so you can read the eibach symbol and part number and its NOT upside down. You are also supposed to cut the yellow strut stop per the instructions of the manual that came with the springs. Pull off one of your front tires and see what the part # is on the spring. Can you also take a pic of the car so we can see how low the car is?
