I recently replaced my ball joint on the drivers side front and I put the control arm back on and one of the bolts that goes into the rear of the control arm into the subframe is stripped out.How should I fix this? Should I drill and tap? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have stripped out one of my control arm bolts, tried tapping with the M12x1.25 and replaced the bolt. There wasn't enough threads/metal left and I cannot get it to tighten to spec. Should I tap with an M12x1.75 and get a matching bolt? Would the different pitch be enough,or should I try an M14?

Well it might be possible to get a bolt on from the bottom. Gonna have to jack it up and see. Does anyone else have an idea on the thread pitch idea? I'm a noob on tapping, other than I know you usually go to the next size up. Thing is,I don't know if that includes pitch.

Problem solved! I couldn't find an M14 tap at any nearby stores so I used a 9/16 spark plug tap. Although I wanted a fine threaded tap, this could be used later on if I or anyone I know has any probs with cross-threading/stripping out plug threads. Thanks silvergst for the suggestion but it wouldn't work.

I just wanted to add a note to this for anyone who comes across this post. I ran into this same issue and tried to use a bolt and nut instead of just a bolt by drilling it out and drilling to the other side of the trailing arm. There is enough space to do this, but when tightening the bolt I noticed that the subframe was just bending and compressing and not allowing the bolt to tighten properly. I will be trying to retap it later this week.

retapped mine and it worked. You might have to drill to and tap a size bigger.
