I have had a problem w/ my dsm misfiring before, and just changed the spark plugs and wires and it ran fine for a while. I was venting to the atmosphere with my Greddy Type S BOV, but now I have recirculated, changed the plugs and the wires, and I'M STILL misfiring..

Here are the sympx. I can drive the car fine at low throttle, but once I get into boost, it misfires throughout the range all the way up to redline. Taking my foot off the throttle does NOT change anything. I am still running a catalytic converter, i have no check engine lights, and the car only has 85k miles on it, on its standard 7 bolt 2g motor. anyone ever have this problem before? i'm stumped..

Is it possible that you switched teo of the wires going between the distributor and plugs. i had that issue once, the car wasent off by much but just enough to make it skip and misfire every once in a while... It may be worth checking?!?

On what? Not a DSM. DSM's do not have distributors.

I just noticed you(drrahimfazel) list your car as a '96 NT, is that correct?

Your car could be out of time. The timing belt could have slept. So be sure to check that.

I can check up on that.. i tried using the NGK's.. did not gap them or anything at the time.. so i bought bosch platinum +4's they worked fine before and did not need gapping. I have had a major boost leak before and I can hear the turbo spool, but I never really went anwhere, but this is different because when I get into full boost, it kinda just shakes like hell.. and its not the same as it once was, I can say that much.. does anyone know where the link is for the boost leak tester.. so i can build one? I wasn't able to find it.

Lastly, I do have a turbo 2.0 DOHC 7 bolt motor, as I said on the original listing, I have to fix my profile then if its wrong.....

thanks so much for your kindly replies guys.. much appreciated:confused:

Dude, you ask anybody about those bosch plugs, they are sh*t. Junk those things immediately. Stick with those ngks that you had and gap them. What kind of wires do you have? I remember a year ago, i had the same problem with my car, the car wouldnt pull and i replaced the wires and that solved everything. They were burnt to nothing. Try that if you already haven't. Hopefully that helps.

i'll be switching to the NGK's most definitely, again then, but in the meantime, I have brand new Bosch spark plug wires, ### I have a lifetime warranty on those at autozone LOL so those are brand spanking new, and I"ve had no problems with them beforehand, either.

does anyone else know about where I can find the boost leak tester information off hand?

can the thing..(whatever its called) where the ignition wires go in be faulty? setting aside all my spark plug woes, and being that they're brand new. This problem has been with ngk's and before that as well.

The coil? I think thats what your talking about. Yea the coil could be bad, but im guessing its alright because your car starts and runs. It might not be supplying enough spark though. You can take it down to autozone and they can test it. How old are the wires?

James:laser:

You could have a boost leak. Does the car stumble at all at idle? You might have a slight leak which would increase after you lay on the gas. Easiest way to test for a leak is get a can of starter fluid and spray the areas where boost could escape, which would be at the throttle body, intercooler, and the piping. If you have aftermarket parts like an uicp or licp, you can trying tighting those down. Or you can wet the areas with soapy water and watch for bubbles with the car running. See what happens. Thats the easiest way to test for a leak.

I thought there was a way to build a little contraption or something and then pump it up and see where it leaks? any word on that? I can try your method.

my car is fine at idle and even mild to moderate boost.. but not at high boost. i have stock IC pipes. I tied them all down again to make sure.

i'll find out more about the coil pack too.. thanks for that info

wires are brand new.. put them in yesterday

Using a boost leak tester is a better method. Starting fluid is NEVER a good idea except on diesels. You can pressurize your system and use soapy water to find small leaks on the Throttle body and intake mani. Spray a mist of soapy water around your throttle body gaskets and BOV flange and J-pipe and watch for bubbles. Also check your Vaccume line going to your break booster. DAN

ok... is there a link that you guys have on hand that can show me how to build the apparatus to pressurize it?? I'm still trying to find that on here.. it has to be here somewhere...

go to home depot and buy a 2" fernco rubber fitting it already has clamps on it also buy a 2" slip fit, white pvc plug . These are both in the plumbing section. Then walk to hardware section where the air tools are and buy a male air fitting with threads that suits your air hose. if you do not have an air hose try to find a valve stem that will tread into the 2" pvc plug so you can pump up the system with a bike pump.
here is a pic of what it should look like.
