Would a faulty fuel pump cause power loss? I was driving my tsi and i heard a small pop and this was after changing the head gasket and i lost all power i shut the car off then turned it back on and still loss of power and now it wont start... Any ideas?

If the problem arose after hearing a pop then I would first check for a blown IC hose/pipe.

As far as power loss from a faulty FP, if the pump is working but at a diminished level then you could run lean under boost causing knock, which will then cause the ECU to pull timing leading to power loss. You can use the check connecter in the engine bay to see if the FP is working or use a voltmeter to see if it is getting power. But it wouldn't necessarily be the first thing that I would think might be causing your problem.

Since you just changed the HG a compression test may not be a bad idea either.

Remember that a blown IC pipe/hose/coupler may not necessarily be apparent on a visual exam. Go ahead and do a general check over but there is no substitute for a boost leak test. Even if your current problem turns out to be something else, boost leak tests are always a good idea.:thumb:

Yea im going to run a compression check first then hook all my vacuum lines back up because none of them are hooked and then im going to try and go from there

the stock wastegate is internal on the turbine side. however, the actuator is the brass/gold looking cyllindrical object near the compressor side of the turbo. check to make sure all the lines are still hooked up to that.

I belive all of those are hooked up and theres one that goes to the intake pipe and then down to the actuator but behind the intake manifold theres none hooked up or any of that could this be causing it to start at times and at times not start?

Look at post #17 here to get an idea of what the wastegate actuator looks like.

Johnny123 was referring to the possibility of the end of the rod (opposite end from the canister portion) coming off of a nipple located on a lever (can see this in the pictures where it is mounted on the turbo) which controls the wastegate flapper inside the turbine housing. The end of the rod is held on by a cotter pin. If this comes off then you will be unable to build boost and you will have power loss. However, this would not account for not being able to start your car but it is still easy enough to check.

I think all that is still hooked up and the actuator is doing its job i also suspect my timing might be off but im going to start with hooking up all the lines and doing a compression check what needs to be unplugged to do the compression check?
