well...i was curious...my friend was driving my car and im guessing e was hitting the brakes too much and slamming them pretty hard...so now my brake pads are making terrible scratching noises when im driving and especially when im braking...some one please tell me that its the brake pads only.....

I doubt it, if you're hearing a metal on metal grinding, more then likely, you need new rotors. Open up a front wheel and take a look.

..but then again i have my doubts because i hear it even while im driving...

That is when you are supposed to hear it. It is a small piece of metal that "scrapes" your rotor. It is used to alert you that your pads are wearing thin. Depending on how the sensor is setup, and how you drive, you may only have 1000 miles until the rivets on your pads start chewing into your rotors. Best to take a look soon.

pads are cheap and easy fixes. Pads should be around 30 bucks for the front, and you could just buy new autozone rotors - -they are only like 20 bucks a corner.

Good advice you guys. I went to advanced auto parts today and 40 bucks for 8 pads...I didn\'t look for rotors reason being because of the sensor that everyone that has told me about ....

When you're doing your brakes... take your hands and run them across the backside of the rotors and feel if you have any scarring.

I had an old mazda protege that I rode the breaks to death, literally. when I did pull them I had heat scarring and the fronts of the rotors were fine, but the backside was dug through and was like a little mountain range. Check that to ensure that it's still smooth and unscarred.:thumb:

When only one side of the rotor gets worn that bad while the other side remains relatively good it is caused by something being wrong with the caliper. :thumb:
