I have been trying to get a hold of a good logger for my 2g for a few weeks now, it seems as though everytime one comes up in my area someone buys it before I can get a day off work to meet up with the seller. I had planned on purchasing one from dsmloggers.com this week but today when I checked their website, nothing comes up?

This is basically a two part question. First, as far as I knew they were the only company to sell the whole kit (palm pilot, cable, and software already loaded on). Does anyone know any sites that have a similar setup for about the same price? (2g setup was around 160 if i remember right).

Similarly, does anyone know what happened to the company? I do not have a lap top so I can not use alot of the software that most people use. Searching on ebay also only brings up cables/loggers for 1g. Thus, I think that buying from them would save alot of hassle (and money) from trying to replicate their product.

Any thoughts?

www.pocketlogger.com

Doesn't come with a palm pilot, and it'll cost you a bit more ($125 for the cable+software plus whatever PDA you buy). I like my PalmIIIc, but there are cheaper models out there. I think my PalmIIIc fully refurbished was like $85 shipped, but you can get one cheaper than that either by getting a lower-end/older unit or shopping around for a better deal. The PalmIIIc is color with a backlit LCD, and it has a rechargeable battery. If you hotsync your PDA to your PC, you don't have to worry about losing any programs if the battery dies (just hotsync again, and it reinstalls everything automatically).

Thank you for the help, I looked over that website and honestly I would rather pick up everything from one place. I have had quite a few bad transactions on ebay so I would rather not buy hardware from there. I'm currently waiting for obdloggers to respond to me, they sell a similar kit at the same price but their website says they are completely sold out.

I just realized I havn't even introduced myself, I'll make a detailed post soon :D

Got my whole kit from obdloggers.com for $140. Palm software is obdgauge, which works fine for me, though pocketlogger has some nice features obdgauge doesn't. Comes with a palm iii which does fine, it even has a backlight for nightime, you can upgrade it though.

Oh, I completely forgot to mention obdloggers. I have looked over the site and even emailed them but it appears as though they are completely out of 2g dsm loggers so that is a dead end option. Thanks for the idea though :D

To give a bit of an update, OBDloggers messaged me and said, "we will not be offering the Palm 2G versions any longer."

Any ideas?

man, why does everyone spend 150 bucks on this? I got a m105 w/hotsync for 12 bucks shipped, the obd2 connector for 11 shipped, and I can get logging software free.

total, 23 bucks.

The $150 are for the interface, the cables alone are worthless. The interface translates OBD II's language to your PDA's.

Sirsol66, your best option is to take Kenamond's advice and go with pocketlogger. Otherwise you'll have to get the interface, cables, PDA and software separately. You wouldn't want to do that.

Lol, my balls disappeared. The interface translates the language???? dam chit

so much for a freakin cheap route. everything has a catch

Haha, and you got me excited!

Thanks for the help everyone, I just have one final question. So, this is a COMPLETE list of what i will need, correct?

-pocketlogger kit with cable and software
-Palm pilot
-Hotsync cable

Several of the palms i looked at mention they come with a hotsync cable (this is on amazon), is it the same cable? Finally, how do you load a program onto a palm pilot? I have never had one so I do not know. My assumption is that you would load it on your computer and then install it on the palm from ther. My question though is how do you connect a palm to a computer? Is it using a usb port that the palm has a cable for or some other way?

Thanks again!

Your list is complete if your computer has a DB9 serial port (9 pins). If it doesn't your gonna need a serial to USB cable (USB-RS232) in order to program your palm. I tried Riadio Shack but they wanted $40 for one. They're $5 on Ebay, so don't freak out.

Programming it is relatively simple. With my Palm IIIxe, you connect the palm to your PC (which already has the program), hit the Hotsync icon on your PDA and wait for it to upload.

I agree completely with Mack. I got a m105 off ebay for about $15 and picked up a serial hotsync cable for another $10. Add that to the price of the PocketLogger software, and you're at $150. I wouldn't suggest going with a m105 since it uses normal AAA batteries that you have to change. I would go with something like a m130 that you can recharge and don't have to worry about having to re-sync all the time. I paid about $35 for my m130 and threw the m105 in a desk drawer.

Wanted to say thanks to everyone, I was able to find a complete kit locally that I purchased. Thanks!
