ok so yea here's the picture...the blue stuff are oil leaks...the arrows are there because it looks like the oil is spraying out that direction?!

the others are just puddles of oil that seem to be coming from the spark plug area...

but for the question i'm mainly asking...the red circle on the intake side of the motor (left side) what is that? it has a block off looking plate, is that normal? I'm just curious, that plate leaks oil at the bottom as well, just to throw that out there. also the lower red circle just seems to be leaking oil as well, just don't know why.

just thought iId throw those newb questions out there.

it would seem so..it was a rebuilt engine when i bought it, so i guess the f'ed it up putting everything back together. so i just need to pick up a valve cover and replace?...

also what about the block-offed looking thing, i thought that was a CAS?? but i'm not sure at all.

Melloeclipse, the top red circle is your cam angle sensor and the bottom plug is for the cylinder oil feed . As far as I know the forward part is not used. But, the end plug is used on some 1g motors for the turbo oil feed.

For the oil leaks look for visual cracks on the outside of the valve cover first. Then pull it off and check the seals and inspect the inside of the valve cover. Most likely the seals are bad. If the valve cover is cracked look in the classified for a new one or if the crack is not that bad you may be able to have it welded.

shouldn't something be there then besides a plate? i thought CASs were kinda dome shapped? this is a flat plate?

2g's have it blocked off. You can install a 1g cas there if you want. Probably just needs a new gasket.

My other thought was maybe bad plug gaskets around the plug wells. And that other spot towards the front (blue) is i think, a small screw that probably just needs some loctite or teflon.

EDIT: WOW, beat to it!

alright just making sure, I know I sound stupid, LOL. But it was just worrying me...and last stupid question is...

it's ok to just pull the valve cover off and put it back on like that? i've never messed with an actual motor so I'm super paranoid/cautious.

When you remove your valve cover, you will have to get a replacement gasket set from your local parts store like Checker (Felpro part #VS50434R) for 39.99. The set came with the 4 spark plug well gaskets, half moon rubber plug and the VC gasket. I also used some Aviation Form-a-gasket made by 3H. It comes in a little 4 oz white container that has a application brush attached to the inside of the lid. This stuff works great but use it sparingly as it tends to run a little if you use excessive amounts.

Also, like the others already mentioned, don't over torque the valve cover bolts. The manual says that 3 ft. lbs. is all you need.

Might want to replace the gasket or it could leak mine did. i had the same problem built my motor and i ended up at a diffrent location with the car when all said and done. I started drving her again and i noticed small oil puddles on my cover as well. I happened to have two other covers laying around in good shape so i painted one and tossed it on with a new gaskt problem was fixed.
