i bought dsm link for my 1 g(92). can i have it socketed by dsmlink or ecm or do i have to get a 95 ecu so that it will plug rite up to it?

I hope you looked to see if you have an Eprom ECU before you ordered DSMLink. If you ordered it from a reputable vendor, you should be getting access to the DSMLink forums, which is the absolute best place to ask questions about DSMLink. Also, you should download the User's Manual, which can be found in the Downloads section of the DSMLink website.

He seems to be under the impression that only '95s have EPROM ECUs. That was the last model year to have them available (96-99 are absolutely non-EPROM in stock form). 1Gs sometimes will, sometimes will not. It's pretty scattershot, so you need to take yours out, open it up and look. None of them are socketed from the factory, so it's not just an unplug-plug procedure.. you have to get someone to de-solder the stock EPROM chip, and install a socket where it used to sit. That will allow you to change out your EPROMs without needing to desolder the old one and hard-solder the new one onto the ECU IC every time.

Also, DSMLink for a 2G will not work with a 1G EPROM ECU. Similarly, a 2G ECU will not work in a 1G DSM. You need a 1G EPROM ECU, and the 1G version of DSMLink to get it to run right in your 1G DSM. If you bought a 'used' chip from someone off a 2G, look into selling it off and buying the proper 1G version.

well what if my 1g ecu isnt an eprom. i can get it socketed by dsmlink or do i have to find another 1g ecu that is eprom and use it.

You STILL need to get the ECU socketed. Your best bet is to have the guys at DSMLink do it for you to avoid any liability problems.
