well just like the post says my 1g is going down hill.... did a compression test and head is pretty nice i was happy with the numbers 145-150-145-145:D but did a leak down test and im losing 55%-5%-15%-20% b/c my rings :notgood: ....my question is what should i do?? what are my options??? :dsm:

It really depends on your own personal experience with engines. If you feel confident that you could pull it apart and install new pistons/rings then go for it. I think replacing the pistons wouldn't be a terrible idea depending on the mileage. They are only $200.

Judging by your profile, you dont need any Engine Mods at this time.

If your planning on keeping the car and want to have a strong engine just do a quick rebuild.

By quick rebuild I mean, pull the head, Replace the valve seals (for the $40 that they cost, why not), Pull the oil pan, pull your pistons out from the top, take a peak at your Main bearings, Re-ring your pistons and replace your rod bearings. Put new gaskets where ever you can, if you plan on higher boost install an MLS headgasket and your done.

If you want to go further into detail you can replace all your timing belt checklist component and front case and install a BSE kit while your there, and also a nice little modification for us 1G guys is to install 2G pistons on our 1G rods. You will need a machine shop to press the pistons off the rods, machine the rods to fit the 22mm pistons pin because a 1G pistons pin is 21mm and then re-ring those pistons and install them. Pretty straight forward and it bumps up compression from 7.8:1 to 8.5:1 which will give you better throttle response when you are out of boost. Since it says you still have a stock clutch, you could pull the Tranny, inspect everything, and replace your Rear Main Seal and if needed, upgrade the clutch to an ACT 2100, its proven and is almost like stock. Also if your going to replace the clutch, spend the extra $200 and get the Fidanza Lightweight flywheel. You will feel the difference in how much quicker the engine revs.

If your comfortable doing all things yourself, then go for it, its very gratifying doing the work yourself.

But, like I said, ask yourself first what your future plans are for the car and aswell as take a look at how many people are still running the stock engine with much larger setups producing much more power.

Sorry to write so much but I like to be thorough.
Best of luck, PM me with any questions.
