tranny problem ?

Ok, so this morning we take the car out for a drive. It drives fine and the tranny felt fine. After driving it for 5 minutes and coming to a stop, the car dies. We start it up and whenever you put it in drive, it would die . Its wierd because if you put it in nuetral or reverse it would stay running, and only die when you put it in drive. Any ideas ? ?

i had a problem like that in my firebird once and it was a cloged fuel filter when you put the car in drive and put a load on the engine the need for more fuel is needed and with the cloged filter there was not enough presure maynot be your problem but when i read the post it made me think of it

So, this is an automatic? What's your idle set at?

Yes, its an automatic and idle is at 850.

btw, my dad thimks its something to do with the tranny. Could it be ?

it could be that your safety switch has gone bad, this is the switch on the transmission that will not allow you to start your car if its in drive or any other gear.
