Question Valve hitting piston?

Ok, this car is really becoming a money pit already. I just recently got the head milled and 2 intake valves replaced. The guy said he had to shave 23,000's off the head. I have no idea if that is too much or what. Now that i have the car back together, I hear a sound like gears grinding on the right side of the head close to the exhaust area at RPM's through 1100 to 2000. after 2000, it goes away and the engine sounds fine. At idle, it sounds like a pulsing double tap in the same area. About 2 double taps per second. It sounds worse when i first start the car, but becomes more distant after it runs for a few minutes. I started it this morning when the car was cold, and there was no problem. I just started it again after the car cooled down for an hour or so and it started doing it again. I am scared to drive it now. i need help on this fast if possible I have rebuilt several N/T motors and never had a problem until this turbo model.

Sorry for all the posts...i cannot find these answers anywhere.

Money pit, ha ha, welcome to dswm world. Sounds like you have some lifter tap, should have had revised lifters put it when you had the head work done.

Could be a valve on the piston or it could very well be a stuck lifter. When valves hit pistons...they usually keep doing it untill fixed. When the noise goes away and comes back...thats a dry lifter. The oil moves around and then it quiets it up. Id put money on a lifter.

could someone point me in the direction of some economical lifters? I would prefer to go a little better than stock.
