Well it looks pretty, but that doesn't mean squat.

Which shop is it? Do they offer a list of specifications? Is that a new front cover, oil and water pump or old ones that've been hot tanked? Which timing belt is that? There's no better time to change a timing belt than when the motor's out of the car. If that belt's anything less than an OEM part, ditch it. Which head gasket did they use? Is this a 7-bolt or 6? These questions and more really need to be answered before we can give you a decent response.

That being said, my guess would be that, for $1300, you can't expect much more than stock internals and basic cleanup. So, no fancy pistons, rods, valves, valve springs, head gaskets or head porting and the like.

Until we know more, my personal opinion would be to save your money, buy a used longblock and rebuild it on your own with the help of a rebuild-experienced friend. Especially if your intention is to only do a stock rebuild. Then you can at least perform a few basic modifications like balance shaft elimination and still save yourself some money.

I look at it this way, you've got a FWD. I've owned 3 FWD DSM's now and if I were in your situation, looking to fork out that kind of money for a motor, I'd just spend the extra $200 bucks and buy myself a running 1Ga AWD. It'd probably be a tired 1Ga, but then you could take your time rebuilding the motor in your existing 1G and do a transplant when the time comes.

Get back to us with some linkage on that motor. :dsm:

Its nothing fancy its a stock 4G63 REBUILT Its from Kar-King in california

Ive got 2 long blocks one sitting in my garage other is in the car i dont have any one around who knows how to rebuild them and im clueless when it comes to it so i was just going to fork out 1300 and get the engine

1989-1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser 2.0L DOHC 6-Bolt 4G63 Turbo type Rebuilt Longblock Engine

Its rebuilt with a MLS Gasket and doesnt come with a valve cover or oil pan!

I need to get my tsi runing to use it as my daily driver then i will be in search of a 96 And up GSX

I take it that engine is from karking... if so i've heard pretty good things about their rebuilt engines but research it more before making any desicions.

Do a search for Kar King. There are tons of opinions on these forums. I am personally running this exact longblock, and I am at about 4000 miles with no problems. Some people love their work, some people say stay the hell away from them.

Search. Oh, and KarKing is a supporting vendor for DSMtuners.

Have you tried joining the Ft Wayne DSM community yet? I know that there a few guys in the area on the Ft Wayne forum that can give you some help in getting started on a rebuild. You must remember that everyone has their own projects and use most of there free time for themselves. Have you considered taking a engine rebuilding course while you are waiting or saving money? Just my .02.

Where can i find that Ft Wayne DSM Community?

I know a few guys with DSMS around but rebuilding one will cost more then the engine from KarKing

i have a karking 6 bolt. it's a good deal, i think. i got the metal head gasket with mine. it's not totally in the car yet but will be in the next day or so. was waiting on a cherry picker:thumb: the only problem i had was that the pin between the crank and flywheel was not there and i could not find a tool to get the old one out w/o messing it up. so i ordered one from the dealer ship. that was after looking everywhere for one. i found out that there are 5 in the U.S. that dealers know about. also could have cleand the head a lil more. that what i gotta say about that..

Pin for the flywheel bolt? i was told its used to line the flywheel up i put a flywheel on without the pin and it worked perfect.

Should i buy the 6bolt from Karking Or rebuild my engine?

I have 2 longblocks one needs a head and other needs a head gasket and there is a knock....

should i take my block without the knock in get it looked at rebuild that one and use my good head or would it be cheaper to buy the karking 6bolt for 1300?

Pretty pictures. If I were buying pictures, I'd sure consider it. However, since none of us can touch the motor, feel the trim, hear it run nor talk with the specific guy who put it together, there's no way in hell we can advise if it's a gem or a boat anchor.
It's a product. You have to decide. KarKing seems to have a fairly good rep on this board, but check places like Vendors-reviewed, and other car forums where feedback about vendors is allowed.
