Are the crankshaft sprockets different between the 2.0 and the 2.4? The reason I ask is because when putting my engine together I ran into a problem. Or may be its not a problem and I just don't know what I'm doing (highly likely).

When I installed the crankshaft sprockets (reused from my 2.0 crank but with a new trigger plate) and rotated the short block and lined up the timing marks the #1 piston isn't at what I thought to be TDC. I took some pics to better explain what I'm talking about.

First, here are timing marks lined up:

Now, here is where # 1 is with the marks lined up:

If I rotate it to what I thought was TDC:

Then here are the timing marks (I drew that mark there for future reference):

So which one is right? And if the piston being at the very top is right then is that where I should have it when I put on the head and line up the timing marks on the camshaft pullies? Is the 2.4l crank keyed differently because the sprockets will only go on one way with the key in place?

HELP!!!

The crankshaft sprocket is correct; I suspect the timing plate is not. What is the black spacer between the sprocket and the bolt? Do you have the 4g64 intake cam sprocket?

The bottom two pictures are the motor at TDC. When I set timing I don't even look at the crankshaft sprocket. I put an extension down the #1 cylinder spark plug hole and rotate the crankshaft to TDC and then set up the camshaft sprockets.

That looks like a cometic HP head gasket. I was told that they stopped making those. Where did you get it?
