Boost leak test?

Is it safe to do a boost leak test by hooking the pipe pre-MAS. My air filter has 2" pipe to the MAS and I already have everything to do the test if this is a decent alternative to just hooking it up straight to the turbo.

why boost leak something that see's no boost, just boost leak from the turbo inlet.

I dont have the right size hose for the turbo inlet, but I do for the MAS inlet. I just want to know if this would hurt the MAS since it doesn't normally get pressurized..

go to home depot and use a FERNCO and make one. I doubt the intake pipe and MAS will hold pressure.

i wouldnt... i would just take the intake pipe off and put the tester on the turbo inlet... what is it...disconnecting one plug (mas) and 3 vacuum lines? i went to home depot and built one for my 14b for 6 dollars.

Some would disagree with hooking up the tester to the compressor-side housing. They say it puts unncessesary strain on the turbo gasket. It's a good idea to pressure test certain components individually (if you have the time and wish to make the effort), but it's your call.

Let me ask the OP this - why is the diameter of the intake pipe between the compressor-side housing and the MAS two inches? Are you trying to choke the turbo to death?

Since you have a turbo'ed 2G DSM with the OEM MAS, your intake pipe should look something like this or this. I would love to see a photo or two of your intake pipe.

Well, I just bought the car about a week ago. I had a longer pipe that fit my 300zx. The air filter to MAS connector is 2". The pipe in between is that long flat strange shaped piece you're showing.

Anyway.. I sacrificed my leak tester from my z for this eclipse and cut it down so it would fit on the compressor inlet area (which was too small of a space before)

No leaks
