My friend recently gave me an entire head assembly off his old 92 talon.
I was wondering if it is at all possible to build the head.. (cams, return springs..all the goodies) and simply "bolt it on"

i know i am going to get some answers stating how bad of a post this is.. but thanks for the help if anyone can assist me..

I'm not sure I know exactly what you mean, but assuming I'm understanding you correctly, there's nothing wrong with building a head you have on the side and then just swapping it out for the cylinder head that's on the car now. You'll need a new head gasket and you'll need to clean the block really well before you put the new head on.

While you're building the head, it'd be a good time to take it to a qualified shop to verify the guides, valves, and valve seats are in good condition and replace the valve stem seals. Might as well upgrade to ARP head studs as well.

Hope this answers your questions.

ya, thanks for the reply.
sorry for wording the question so poorly.

So it IS possible to have the cylinder head rebuilt and then "bolt it on" to my block?

what kind of "high performance" options should i consider?

if he had a turbo head like yours, there's no reason why you couldnt. should be exactly the same. only thing i could think of is to maybe port and get lighter valvetrain.

Depends on what your goals are. With a 16g that's listed in your profile, you don't need to go too crazy. A mild port and cams would help. Valvetrain upgrades (springs retainers, etc) are good, however if you're not planning on going agfressive with cams and don't plan on a larger turbo that could support airflow in the higher rpms, it might be wise to save your money. ARP studs are good insurance even with a 16g and you could consider a metal head gasket like the mitsu one.

Definitely get the maintenance items I mentioned above checked out at a good shop. It's a good idea to make sure the head you're putting on is in good condition rather than trying to troubleshoot a potential problem after the fact.

is your question more about the older 6-bolt head on a 1st gen 7-bolt block? I don't think they are the same. The oil and coolant passages are different I believe
