Ok I'm getting my motor installed this week and this guys is trying to tell me its going to be 1200 bucks. He is installing a 7-bolt motor and putting the 1g head on there. Do you belive that it should cost that much for them to do this.? I called one place and they said that it would be 850 but i would have to get the car towed there and i don't know how much that is going to be.

That sounds right to me, especially because they need to retime that thing before they put it in. A reputable shop once quoted me 800 for just clutch install (before I knew what I was doing).

for a clutch no way thats insane F alot of that shit man i would have told them that they were out there minds... Im going to call the other shop tomorrow and see how long it would take them to get this done so.. hopefully i can get it back by the end of the week.

Do the swap yourself, its the cheapest way, and best way to learn the ins and outs of your motor. If its a difference of a couple hundred bucks, and you know that the more expensive shop does better work, then it might be worth it to pay a little more.

the clutch quote was about right, most shops charge 300 to 350 to pull and then another 3-350 to install plus parts and labor...its rediculous, not sure how much your motor should be, mine was 100 bucks ### i had my school do it.:thumb:

Yeah I would normally go with that saying but the guy did my step dads ac and he spent 3grand on it and it still doesn't work so i was really just getting a quote on about how much it would cost. My mom told me not to really trust what he says because he just out to make money. He was saying that i need to replace the turbo as well but the turbo works fine so he's full of crap in that matter

Spent 3 grand on the AC? That doesnt seem to really make any sense, and if it is true, then why are you even considering what this shop is telling you? Bottom line its going to cost about a grand or more to get it put in.

Then he is going to question my knoweldge about the difference between the 6-bolt motor and the 7-bolt. Like i havent done lots of reasearch on this matter. Anyhow. He was telling me that the pistons and rods were the same if i would just by the motor from him. But lilke i said he was really just getting a quote because he did lots of stuff to other peoples cars. Those worked fine but my step dad also drives a BMW so those are difficult to work on.
